Trump ‘Dictates the Message’ of the White House, Spokeswoman Leavitt Says

President Donald Trump is involved in every aspect of the White House’s communications strategy, press secretary Karoline Leavitt says.

“He’s the president of United States. He’s also the communications director of the White House, because he dictates the message. He executes the agenda,” she said Friday at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. “One of the things I love about President Donald Trump, and I think what makes him such a great leader, is that he’s so deeply involved in every decision that is made, every speech that is written, every executive order that is signed.”

While most politicians read a script written for them by staff, Trump “cares about every word he is saying and every action he is taking,” including the punctuation and capitalization of words.

The president’s mood is “jubilant, excited, exhilarated, and defiant,” the press secretary said.

“This is the most transparent and accessible president we have ever had, despite what the media wants to say,” said Leavitt, who ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2022 and now at 27 is the youngest-ever presidential press secretary.

“Extensive preparation” goes into each press briefing, Leavitt said, thanking the team at the White House that helps her prepare. She also leans on policy experts “to figure out what is fake news versus what is truth.”

“So, a lot of preparation, a lot of reading, talking to the president to understand his thinking,” she said, “and then when I got to the podium, I realized the president is delivering on everything he said he was going to do, which makes my job as his spokeswoman easy, because I’m not working for a politician who’s lying, and we have to spin. I’m working for a man who said things, and he’s delivering on those things every day.”

The White House Press Office has a strategy of “offense,” Leavitt explained, adding:

We are on offense every single day, and the president leads from an offensive mindset. We are not going to apologize for cutting waste, fraud, and abuse from our government.

We are not going to apologize for mass deporting illegal immigrant criminals who have broken our nation’s laws and terrorize our communities, and we are not going to apologize for slashing regulations and undoing the disastrous policies of the previous administration.

That’s what the president said he was going to do, and that’s what the majority of our fellow Americans want.

She said the media will not succeed in sowing division in her press office.

“The president is leading with that positive, ‘happy warrior’ attitude,” she said, “and it transpires to the rest of the White House every day.”

Leavitt said what motivates her work is her 7-month-old son, Nico, and “all of the other children in this country.”

“I want my son to grow up in a free and patriotic America that we can be proud of,” she said.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
