Trump Doesn’t Plan to Lift State of Emergency at the Southern Border

President Donald Trump said he doesn’t plan to lift the state of emergency he declared at the southern border on his first day in office because “we have a massive emergency overall.”

“It’s an overall emergency on immigration,” the president said in an interview with “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” on NBC News. “If the courts don’t allow us to take people out, if we had to have a court case every single – think of it. Every single person, we have millions of people. If you have millions of court cases, figure two weeks a court case, it would be 300 years.”

Trump invoked the National Emergencies Act on Jan. 20 to declare that a national emergency exists at the southern border of the United States.

Trump said the “big emergency” right now is that there are “thousands of people that we want to take out, and we have some judges that want everybody to go to court.”

A Texas federal judge permanently blocked the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport illegal immigrants in the Southern District of Texas, ruling that the administration’s use of the 1789 law exceeds its scope.

The Supreme Court ruled Trump must “facilitate” the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an illegal immigrant deported to El Salvador who the Trump administration says is a member of MS-13.

Trump may seek clarification from the Supreme Court on what “facilitate” means, the president said.

“We may do that,” he said. “I was asking about that.”

Trump will rely on Attorney General Bondi for how to continuing securing the border in light of the court rulings, he said.

“I have lawyers to do that, and that’s why I have a great DOJ,” he said. “We have a great one. We had a very corrupt one before. Now we have a great one”

The Trump administration has the power to bring back Garcia if the attorney general tells him to, but the decision is up to the leader of El Salvador, who the president described as a “very capable man.”

Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker that it’s a “beautiful thing” that the border is the most secure it’s ever been in history “after being abused for years by an incompetent president that allowed people to pour through an open border, criminals from all over the world, murderers and insane people from mental institutions and insane asylums.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
