Trump Says Epstein Story Is Kept Alive By ‘Pretty Bad People, Including Fake News’

President Donald Trump said on Tuesday night that the controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein case is being kept alive by “pretty bad people,” including the “fake news” media.

Trump was asked about the Epstein case, which has set him at odds with much of his base over the past week, multiple times on Tuesday. On his way back to the White House after meeting with tech and energy executives in Pittsburgh, the president was asked by a reporter why his supporters “have been so interested in the Epstein story and so upset with how it’s been handled.”

“I don’t understand it, why they would be so interested, he’s been dead for a long time,” Trump replied. “He was never a big factor in terms of life. I don’t understand what the interest or what the fascination is, I really don’t. The credible information has been given.”

“Don’t forget, we went through years of the Mueller witch hunt and all of the different things, the Steele dossier, which was all fake. All that information was fake,” the president added. “I don’t understand why the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody. It’s pretty boring stuff. It’s sordid, but it’s boring, and I don’t understand why it keeps going. I think really only pretty bad people, including fake news, want to keep something like that going.”

“But credible information, let them give it,” he continued, referring to the Department of Justice investigation into the case.

Trump unloaded on his “past supporters” in a Truth Social post on Wednesday morning, claiming that they are going along with “the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax” pushed by Democrats and “have bought into this ‘bulls***’ hook, line, and sinker.”

“I have had more success in 6 months than perhaps any President in our Country’s history, and all these people want to talk about, with strong prodding by the Fake News and the success starved Dems, is the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax,” he added. “Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!”

Those calling for more transparency on the Epstein case include Democrats and Republicans, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA).

“It’s a very delicate subject. We should put everything out there and let the people decide it,” Johnson said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump praised Attorney General Pam Bondi for her handling of the Epstein case, as she faces criticism from many conservatives over her handling of the investigation. Trump also cast doubt on the legitimacy of the Epstein files, saying they “were made up” by former FBI Director James Comey, along with the Obama and Biden administrations.

“And we went through years of that, with the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax and all of the different things that we had to go through. We’ve gone through years of it,” he added.

The Epstein case controversy has blown up among Trump supporters and within the administration after the Department of Justice said last week that it did not find evidence to prove that Epstein had a client list or that powerful co-conspirators were involved in his child sex crimes. The DOJ also said that the evidence showed that Epstein committed suicide in his jail cell in August 2019.

Five months ago, Bondi promised to reveal major details in the case, and the White House even handed out binders titled “The Epstein Files: Phase 1″ to right-wing influencers. Since then, no new bombshells have been reported regarding the Epstein case. The attorney general also stated in February that she had Epstein’s client list on her desk, but walked that statement back last week when the DOJ said that it did not find evidence of a client list existing. Bondi later clarified that she was referring to a file on the Epstein case, not an actual client list.

“I think that Pam Bondi botched this eight ways from Sunday. I have not seen a bigger botchery of a rollout of a story maybe ever,” Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro told journalist Megyn Kelly earlier this week.

Conservative radio host Glenn Beck said on Tuesday that the Epstein case matters to Trump’s supporters because “it has become a vessel to carry all the hopes and dreams that MAYBE someone will clean up Washington, DC.”

“After months of promises of transparency, after Pam Bondi TOLD US the evidence was sitting on her desk and the [U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York] was withholding information, we were told the list never even existed. We were told to move on after being LED ON,” Beck added. “That’s why we can’t be satisfied with this. It feels like the vessel has been shattered. That doesn’t mean it can’t be repaired. But the administration MUST release what they can and ask the courts to unseal their evidence.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
