Trump to Sign Executive Orders Strengthening Law Enforcement, Punishing Sanctuary Cities

President Donald Trump will sign two executive orders Monday aimed at securing the southern border.
The first order “will strengthen and unleash American law enforcement to pursue criminals and protect innocent citizens,” press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a morning briefing.
The second order will start a crackdown on sanctuary cities, which the White House says obstruct immigration laws.
“The second EO is centered around protecting American communities from criminal aliens, and it will direct the attorney general and secretary of homeland security to publish a list of state and local jurisdictions that obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration laws,” Leavitt continued.
Attorney General Pam Bondi and Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem will have one month to identify cities and states that aren’t complying with federal immigration laws and designate them “sanctuary jurisdictions.”
The listed cities and states could lose federal funding and face possible lawsuits if they don’t change their laws or practices.
These orders are necessary because former President Joe Biden allowed more than 10 million illegal aliens to “invade” the United States, Leavitt said.
The “law and order” executive order will empower state and local law enforcement with federal resources, focus federal prosecutions on high-impact crimes, protect law-abiding Americans, and pursue legal remedies against obstructive state or local officials, according to a senior White House official.
The order will create a mechanism to provide legal resources and indemnification, including pro bono assistance, for officers facing unjust legal costs when defending themselves for performing their official duties.
It will also increase support for officers by maximizing federal resources to improve training, increasing officer pay and benefits, strengthening legal protections, seeking tougher sentences for crimes against officers, enhancing prison security and capacity, and improving crime data uniformity.
The executive order directs a review of federal consent decrees, out-of-court agreements, and post-judgment orders that hinder law enforcement.
The Trump administration will also ensure racial discrimination investigations in law enforcement rely on direct evidence, not statistical disparities.
The executive order increases surplus military assets available for local law enforcement and evaluates their use in crime prevention.
The administration will pursue legal action against state or local officials obstructing criminal or immigration law enforcement.
