Trump Wants To ‘Spend Less Time Worrying About Putin,’ Focus More On Illegal Immigration

President Donald Trump said on Sunday night that the United States should focus more on stopping violent illegal immigrants from entering the country and “spend less time worrying about” Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump made the comment on Truth Social two days after his explosive meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Since the fiery exchange in the Oval Office, Trump has been slammed by Democrats and some Republicans for his treatment of Zelensky. Trump’s critics argue that the outcome of Friday’s meeting helped Putin. The president has been accused of favoring Russia over Ukraine during peace negotiations after administration officials met with Russian officials in Saudi Arabia last month.

“We should spend less time worrying about Putin, and more time worrying about migrant rape gangs, drug lords, murderers, and people from mental institutions entering our Country – So that we don’t end up like Europe!” Trump wrote.

On Monday morning, the president posted about Ukraine again, blasting Democrats’ outrage over the administration’s handling of Ukraine-Russia negotiations.

“The only President who gave none of Ukraine’s land to Putin’s Russia is President Donald J. Trump,” he said. “Remember that when the weak and ineffective Democrat’s [sic] criticize, and the Fake News gladly puts out anything they say!”

Trump has been pushing for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine as the war moves beyond the three-year mark. The president’s meeting with Zelensky on Friday was to discuss moving closer to an end to the war while also signing a minerals agreement between the United States and Ukraine. After 40 minutes of discussion in the Oval Office, however, the meeting turned sour when Zelensky complained that the United States hadn’t done more to help his country since 2014 — when Russia invaded Crimea.

Zelensky was reprimanded by Trump and Vice President JD Vance, who accused the Ukrainian leader of taking American military support for granted. After a heated back-and-forth on national television, Zelensky was asked to leave the White House without signing the minerals deal. Trump said in a statement that Zelensky would be welcome to return to the White House when he was “ready for peace.”

“It’s amazing what comes out through emotion, and I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace if America is involved, because he feels our involvement gives him a big advantage in negotiations. I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE,” Trump added.

Zelensky told the BBC on Sunday that he is still “ready to sign” the minerals deal with the Trump administration, but Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CBS News that the economic deal with Ukraine is currently off the table, saying, “It is impossible to have an economic deal without a peace deal.”

“President Trump’s idea for this economic arrangement was to further intertwine the American people and Ukrainian people and show no daylight,” he added. “To show the Russian leadership that there was no daylight, and President Zelensky came into the Oval Office and tried to re-litigate in front of the world the deal.”
