President Donald Trump announced during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday that the United States will take over the Gaza Strip.
“The U.S. will take over the Gaza strip and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said. “We’ll own it.”
Trump said the United States will be responsible for dismantling unexploded bombs and other weapons, demolishing and leveling destroyed buildings, and creating an economic development zone that will “supply unlimited numbers of jobs and housing for the people of the area.”

Trump said he sees the United States having long-term ownership, and is open to sending troops if necessary.
“I think we will be a great keeper of something that is very, very strong, very powerful, and very, very good for the area, not just for Israel, for the entire Middle East,” Trump said. “There will be jobs for everyone.”
“Everyone I have spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land, developing and creating thousands of jobs with something that will be magnificent,” he added.
He said he envisions the “world’s people” living in Gaza, including some Palestinians, after it is rebuilt.
“I think the potential in the Gaza strip is unbelievable and I think representatives from all over the world will be there,” he said.
He added that Gaza could become the “Riviera of the Middle East.”
Netanyahu said Trump’s idea is worth paying attention to.
“I think it’s something that could change history and I think it is worth pursuing this avenue,” Netanyahu said.
During his Oval Office meeting with Netanyahu earlier in the day, Trump said that he plans to have the entire population of Gaza relocated.
“All of them, we’re talking about probably 1.7 million people,” Trump said when asked how many Gazans he would like to resettle. “I think they’ll be resettled in areas where they can live a beautiful life and not be worried about dying every day.”

Trump doubled down on his claim that Egypt and Jordan would not oppose his proposal to relocate Gazan refugees to their countries, despite leaders in both nations rejecting the idea.
“They won’t tell me no. I want to remove all the residents of Gaza,” he responded. “It will happen.”
He called Gaza a “demolition site,” adding that he believes people are only in Gaza because there is no alternative.
Netanyahu called Trump the “greatest friend Israel has ever had in the White House.”
“That’s why the people of Israel have such enormous respect for you,” he added.
Netanyahu thanked Trump for ceasing funding to UNRWA that has funded terrorists, removing sanctions on Israeli civilians, and renewing the maximum pressure campaign against Iran in just two weeks.
“All of this in just two weeks,” Netanyahu said. “Can you imagine where we will be in four years?”
Netanyahu pointed out that Iran tried to assassinate both world leaders. Earlier in the day, Trump revealed that there is a contingency plan in place in case he is ever assassinated by Iran, which includes obliterating the country.
“I left instructions — if they do it, they get obliterated,” he said. “There won’t be anything left.”
