‘Act of Targeted Violence’: Shell Casings Recovered at Dallas ICE Shooting Engraved ‘ANTI-ICE’

A shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center has left multiple people injured and one victim dead.
“This morning just before 7 a.m. local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X.
While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an ideological motive behind this attack,” Patel said, adding, an “unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase ‘ANTI ICE.'”
“For months, we’ve been warning politicians and the media to tone down their rhetoric about ICE law enforcement before someone was killed,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote on X.
“These horrendous killings must serve as a wake-up call to the far-left that their rhetoric about ICE has consequences,” Noem said, adding the “violence and dehumanization of these men and women who are simply enforcing the law must stop.”
The shooting incident is being investigated as an “act of targeted violence,” Joseph Rothrock, Dallas FBI special agent in charge, said during a press conference Wednesday morning.
“Early evidence we’ve seen from rounds that were found near the suspected shooter contain messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” Rothrock continued. “Again, this is just the most recent example of this type of attack. This will be a whole of government response. There will be no resource not utilized to bring all those individuals who are responsible to bring them to justice and hold them accountable.”
Vice President JD Vance responded to Noem’s X post, writing, “The obsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop. I’m praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families.”
The shooter used a rifle, according to Fox 4 News.
“We believe he was shooting at law enforcement and the detainees from an apartment building,” Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary, said on Fox News Wednesday morning.
Dallas police responded to the shooting, confirming on X that multiple people were taken to the hospital.
“One victim died at the scene. The suspect is deceased. This is an ongoing investigation,” according to the Dallas Police Department.
“The FBI is fully engaged, in conjunction with our state and federal law enforcement partners, at the crime scene in Dallas,” FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino wrote on X.
The shooting incident shows the increase of violence “against ICE officers and agents,” Todd Lyons, acting ICE director, said on CNN, noting that this is the second recent shooting at an immigration facility in the Dallas area.
“It’s just a sad time that we have to worry about violence against law enforcement,” Lyons said.
There has been a 1000% increase in assaults against ICE agents since the Trump administration launched a large-scale apprehension and deportation effort. Over two million illegal aliens have either been removed or have chosen to self-deport since President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, according to DHS.
“We will continue to do everything in our power to combat the alarming increase of targeted attacks against ICE and all law enforcement by evil, twisted individuals,” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote on X.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott voiced strong support for ICE following the shooting, writing on X that the incident “will NOT slow our arrest, detention, and deportation of illegal immigrants. We will work with ICE and the Dallas Police Dept. to get to the bottom of the assassin’s motive.”
“We will offer ICE additional support to assist their operations,” Abbott wrote.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said he was closely monitoring the news on the shooting Wednesday morning.
“We are praying for the swift recovery of those injured, and we are deeply grateful to the brave first responders who rushed to the scene,” Cruz said.
Correction: An earlier version of this article reported that two people, plus the shooter, died in the shooting incident. Law enforcement later said only one victim was killed in addition to the shooter, who took his own life.
