At least one person has died, and approximately nine people are injured after a shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township, Michigan, according to police.

The shooter “drove his vehicle through the front doors of the church” before opening fire, according to Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye. The suspect was later killed in a firefight with police.

The current status of the injured victims is unknown. The church fire was likely started by the shooter, according to Police Chief Renye.

President Donald Trump released a statement on the shooting and fire, saying that he has “been briefed,” and to “pray for the victims and their families.”

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said in a post on X that FBI agents are responding to the shooting “to provide any requested support necessary.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi posted that she is receiving briefings “about what appears to be a horrific shooting and fire at an LDS church in Grand Blanc, Michigan.” She also noted that federal agents with the FBI and ATF are responding.

“Such violence at a place of worship is heartbreaking and chilling. Please join me in praying for the victims of this terrible tragedy,” said Bondi.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer responded to news of the shooting on X: “My heart is breaking for the Grand Blanc community. Violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable. Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
