Time to Cross the Rubicon

On January 10, 49 B.C.E., General Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon, a stream separating Rome from the province of Gaul. Crossing the Rubicon began a civil war that would end the Roman Republic.

Time to Cross the Rubicon

Of course I'm not writing about ending the republic.  It is about taking action!

The modern meaning of the phrase "Cross the Rubicon" is:

"To commit to a particular plan or course of action that cannot be reversed; irrevocably commit to a course of action."

I am writing about irrevocably committing to a course of action.  Not just any course of action but a course of action that keeps and restores, when necessary, our Freedoms.  We, together, as a whole, must commit and get behind a course of action.

To my knowledge, right now we have two potential courses of actions or plans, if you will.  There is the America First Agenda and the House Republicans Commitment to America.  Is there another one out there?

The America First Agenda, has 10 main topics each with additional subtopics.  Here are the main topics.

  1. Make The Greatest Economy In The World Work For All Americans
  2. Put Patients And Doctors Back In Charge Of Healthcare
  3. Restore America’s Historic Commitment To Freedom, Equality, And Self-Governance
  4. Give Parents More Control Over Their Children’s Education
  5. Finish The Wall, End Human Trafficking, And Defeat The Drug Cartels
  6. Deliver Peace Through Strength And American Leadership
  7. Make America Energy Independent
  8. Make It Easy To Vote And Hard To Cheat
  9. Provide Safe And Secure Communities So All Americans Can Live Their Lives In Peace
  10. Fight Government Corruption By Draining The Swamp

The House Republicans, recently presented their Commitment to America that they intend to implement should they regain control of the house.  According to their website it has four main topics with additional subtopics as well.  These main topics are:

  1. An Economy that's Strong
  2. A Nation that's Safe
  3. A Future That’s Built On Freedom
  4. A Government That’s Accountable

I am not versed in all the nuances of modern politics but I like both of these plans.  There is a lot of overlap in each.  In all probability, those of you more astute in politics will find weak areas and areas not covered in both.  I undoubtedly will not disagree with you.  But at least they are plans, courses of action.

As an average American, my fear is not that we follow one course of action, the other, both, a combination or something else all together.  As long as we commit to a course of action.  My fear is that those of us, from any party or any belief, who believes this country is going in the completely wrong direction can work together to put the right people in office.  Then, if or when we do put those people in office, they put aside any differences they may have and lead with a truly unified front and do what "we the people" need them to do.

My fear is not unfounded.  Just this past weekend Liz Cheney vowed to help democrats over the Republican Candidate Kari Lake.  Yes, Liz Cheney is an extreme example, however, not too long ago Mitch McConnell's super PAC canceled ads in Arizona and Alaska.  There are more examples I could provide, unfortunately, many more.

As with Caesar's crossing of the Rubicon to begin his conquest of Rome, being able to set aside differences and truly work together is the Repulican's Rubicon to cross.  Crossing our Rubicon is the first step!

Update:  Here is a really well written article from American Thinker that discusses the Republican Party.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
