The Sound of Silence

In the 1964 Simon and Garfunkel's song, The Sound of Silence, are these two lines, "And the vision that was planted in my brain. Still remains within the sound of silence". Do your visions remain within the sound of silence?

A few weeks back I watched a TV show playing the Simon and Garfunkel's 1964 song, The Sound of Silence, as the background music.  I was struck by lines in the first verse of this song:

Hello, darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains within the sound of silence

In particular, the last two lines, "And the vision that was planted in my brain. Still remains within the sound of silence".  I realized that my ideas, thoughts, my "visions" more often than not remain unsaid, remaining within my own sound of silence.  I realized that I was part of the silent majority which, of course, I already knew but didn't want to admit.  For some reason this verse and those lines really hit home how much I was sitting on the sidelines.

I understand being in the "silent majority" and sitting on the sidelines, everyone understands.  It boils down to having responsibilities, bills to pay, children to raise and the many other aspects of living a responsible life.  There is a fear that jumping into and participating in the current fiasco that is our political system right now adds risk to our ability to take care of life's responsibilities.

In an article published this past weekend on Zerohedge.com about the silent majority, there were a couple of really good points made and I repeat them here.

“A silent majority may as well not exist, I think there’s a silenced majority.”

”How can you win a fight if you don’t fight? How can you win a debate when you don’t speak?”

"A silent majority is weak when faced with a vocal minority."

It is time to step off the sidelines and no longer be silent.  After my realization is when I put this site together to put my "visions" out there.  If we want to maintain our Freedoms, or any Freedoms we have left, then there must no longer be a silent majority.  There must be an active majority.

When I read this Zerohedge article mentioned I had already started this article.  Since the Zerohedge article is so, well frankly, much better, I end mine here.  I strongly suggest you read the article yourself, here is the link:

'Silent Majority' Must Speak Up When Vocal Minority Imposes Views on Society: Zuby

Does your future hold "hello darkness my old friend" or do you see a change coming?

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
