“GOD BLESS TEXAS”: Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts Praises Texas’ Redistricting Efforts

Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts applauds Texas’ redistricting efforts ahead of the 2026 midterms.

“Texas, of course, has the right to redistrict more than once in a decade,” Roberts says. “They’ve done a good job. They’ve reset lines that actually reflect two million new people arriving in the state since 2020.”

Both the Texas House of Representatives and Senate passed a redistricting bill last week, nicknamed the “One Big Beautiful Map,” which now awaits Texas Gov. Greg Abbott‘s signature.

The legislation, fully endorsed by President Donald Trump, aims to redraw the Lone Star State’s congressional map to the Republicans’ advantage, potentially adding five more GOP-held seats in an effort to maintain the majority in the U.S. House ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Following Texas’s plans to redraw district lines, California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed legislation last Thursday to call for a special election on Nov. 4 to gerrymander the state’s districts to regain the five seats Democrats are expected to lose in Texas.

Said Roberts, “I think it’s an open question about whether the California effort gets through the independent commission and also whether it gets through that ballot referendum.”

If voters approve the measure, it will allow Democrat lawmakers to bypass an independent redistricting commission and ultimately add five more seats for the party.

“One of the things that no doubt, the other side—the right side—will claim, and they will claim correctly,” Roberts explained, “is that there are millions of illegal aliens on the voter rolls in California. It is unjust, and that needs to be corrected.”

California ophthalmologist and scientist Houman David Hemmati criticized the governor for launching a $250 million taxpayer-funded election while the state is suffering a staggering budget deficit of $20 billion.

“How does @GavinNewsom justify the $250,000,000 cost to taxpayers for this political stunt at a time when we have massive budget deficits and can’t meet our essential obligations?” Hemmati posted, “Newsom didn’t fund anti-crime Prop 36 because it cost $250M but has this?! Imagine what this $ would have done for wildfire prevention and much more.”

Rep. Kevin Kiley, R-Calif., wrote on Aug. 20 on X that while Newsom states that voters fully support his gerrymandering plans, a Politico poll showed that 64% of voters would rather maintain the independent redistricting commission.

“Newsom just released a poll suggesting 57% of voters support his Redistricting Sham,” Kiley said. “But Politico’s poll shows 64% against it. The difference is fraud. Newsom is testing ballot language designed to fool people into thinking Yes is No.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
