Illustrated by a Detransitioner, New Children’s Book Encourages Embracing Their God-Given Sex

A new children’s book promoting self-acceptance of one’s God-given sex and illustrated by a former “transgender” individual who has “detransitioned” was released last week.

Written by licensed social worker and family advocate Pamela Garfield-Jaeger, “Froggy Girl” speaks to the current cultural phenomenon that children are told they can change their gender.

Garfield-Jaeger worked with Nicolas Blooms to illustrate “Froggy Girl.” Blooms is a male who once identified as a woman but has since become what is known as a detransitioner and sees himself once again as a man.

Blooms said he believes it is important for people to accept their bodies as they are and considers the book to be therapeutic, according to a press release.

“Froggy Girl” is endorsed by Chloe Cole, a Turning Point USA contributor and detransitioner who has been in the public eye since she publicly voiced her regret of having a double mastectomy at age 15 to appear more like a male.

Cole took to Instagram to describe the illustrations of “Froggy Girl” as “fun and beautiful.” She went on to say, “My kids one day will definitely be reading it.”

In 2021, Garfield-Jaeger reentered the workforce after being on leave from a previous position. Her new job was in health care, and she said she was bewildered by the things she heard in the field.

“In my 20 years of experience, no one used the word ‘affirming.’ That wasn’t even a thing,” she told The Daily Signal. Garfield-Jaeger said that she was “shocked” and that a “light bulb went off” when she realized how much the industry had changed.

The word “affirming” refers to affirming someone’s chosen, not biological, gender by referring to them by certain gender pronouns or calling them by a new name that may reflect their different gender choice.

“I didn’t know how extreme it had become until I got back to work and saw it firsthand. And then that was combined with still having to mask [for COVID-19] in a therapy setting—all the social justice things—was all combined. It’s all related. So, I saw all of that stuff, and it was very anti-therapeutic. … All against everything that I’ve ever known as a therapist, you know, about looking inside yourself and taking responsibility and making better choices, and then it became about society and the collective and the ‘isms’ and blaming others and separating people, separating families,” Garfield-Jaeger told The Daily Signal.

“As a therapist with 25 years of experience working with children and families, I saw a need for stories that affirm the truth and encourage self-acceptance,” she said in a press release.

“‘Froggy Girl’ is a response to the growing number of children’s books that promote confusing messages about identity,” she said. “This book is a tool for parents, educators, and homeschoolers to foster meaningful conversations about faith and truth. Since there are so many children’s books that teach kids that they could be born wrong, I wanted to write a book that teaches children that they were born right.”

In the book, a young girl dreams of being a frog, which leads to her parents, teacher, and friends supporting her wish with frog-themed clothes, flags, and play. Yet, as she struggles to live as a frog—unable to swim like one or catch flies—she feels isolated and sad.

Through this gentle, faith-based tale, the story reveals the importance of accepting one’s unique, God-given identity, offering a timely message for families navigating today’s complex cultural landscape, Garfield-Jaeger said.

Through “Froggy Girl,” she said she hopes to “captivate young readers while providing parents with a resource to reinforce conservative and Christian values.”

Garfield-Jaeger is also the author of “A Practical Response to Gender Distress: Tips and Tools for Families,” which came out in 2024 and has been praised for being a powerful, practical solution by Aldo Buttazzoni of PragerU, a conservative nonprofit that utilizes digital media to spread the conservative message.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
