Iran On ‘High Alert’ Over Potential Strike By U.S., Israel On Nuclear Sites

Iran is reportedly on high alert fearing that the United States and Israel are on the verge of striking its illicit nuclear facilities.

The Telegraph reported that multiple high-level government sources confirmed Iran had changed the preparedness level for its defense systems in response to fears that an attack is imminent.

The Islamic regime, which is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, is increasing its defenses around the nuclear facilities, including the deployment of anti-aircraft launchers.

“They [Iranian authorities] are just waiting for the attack and are anticipating it every night and everything has been on high alert – even in sites that no one knows about,” one source told The Telegraph. “Work to fortify nuclear sites has been ongoing for years but it has intensified over the past year, particularly since Israel launched the first attack.”

Trump’s victory in November has only “further intensified the activities,” the source added.

The Iranian official who spoke to The Telegraph said there are serious fears in the country now that the United States could join Israel’s likely forthcoming strike, thus making it much larger and putting “the Islamic Republic’s existence in danger.”

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that analysis from both the Biden and Trump administrations has concluded that Israel is likely to carry out a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities this year as it looks to take maximal advantage of Iran’s weakened state.

Officials familiar with the report said that it indicated Israel believes President Donald Trump is far more likely to support their decision to take out the nuclear sites than former President Joe Biden.

The United States military believes that it would need to supply specific munitions for the strike, given that one of the facilities is buried under a mount and the United States is the only country in the world that has powerful enough bunker buster bombs to reach it.

In December, the U.S. intelligence community issued its sharpest warning yet that Iran could move to develop nuclear weapons. Iran has amassed a large stockpile of highly enriched uranium and is thought to have been working on the technical details of completing work on a bomb should it make the political decision to go ahead.

Iran has long forsworn development of a nuclear weapon, but the December report concluded the risks have increased that it could change its mind to develop an effective deterrent, pointing to a public debate in the country over going nuclear. Israel over the past year wiped out the top leadership and much of the arsenal amassed by Lebanese militia Hezbollah, an Iran ally and a deterrent to Israeli attacks, and crippled Iran’s air defenses.

The fall of the Assad regime in Syria also deprived Iran of one of its most important allies and a crucial platform for projecting power in the region. Meanwhile, Iranian missile strikes against Israel in retaliation for Israeli attacks have failed to do much damage.

Iran is also dealing with a weakened economy that is likely to be further weakened by President Donald Trump’s new maximum pressure campaign against the country.

While Trump has signaled at times that he is open to diplomacy with Iran, he has always sent strong signals that he is prepared to use the military to deal with the Islamic regime if need be, which comes after the country has repeatedly tried to assassinate Trump over the last year.
