Poland Pledges to Shoot Down Threatening Objects Following Russian Violation of NATO Airspace

In a clear warning to Russia, Poland says it will shoot down objects that violate Polish airspace and pose a threat to the nation. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said a more cautious approach will be taken when a threat level is not clear.

Tusk’s warning Monday comes after Russia flew three fighter jets into Estonian airspace on Friday and NATO scrambled Italian jets based in Estonia to intercept the Russian MiG-31 fighter jets and escort them out of the airspace. Estonia and Poland are both NATO members.

Russia denies it violented Estonian airspace and is claiming Estonia made up the accusation.

The incident in Estonia comes about a week and a half after Russia drones entered Poland’s airspace.

“We will take the decision to shoot down flying objects when they violate our territory and fly over Poland—there is absolutely no discussion about that,” Tusk said.

The United Nations Security Council will meet Monday to discuss the Friday incident in Estonia.

“By openly violating Estonian airspace, Russia undermines principles vital to the security of all U.N. member states. When such actions are committed by a permanent member of the Security Council, they must be addressed by that very body,” Margus Tsahkna, Estonia’s foreign minister, wrote on X Sunday.

Tsahkna called Russia’s actions “a grave and unacceptable provocation.”

Over the weekend, Russia launched a drone attack on Ukraine that left at least three people dead, according to The Associated Press.

It has been over a month since President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska to discuss Russia’s war with Ukraine. Three days later, on Aug. 18, Trump met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House. Trump then announced that Putin and Zelenskyy would talk one-on-one ahead of a trilateral meeting that would include Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy. But Putin and Zelenskyy have yet to hold talks, and Russia has continued to carry out strikes in Ukraine.

Trump has called on NATO countries to apply greater pressure on Russia.

“I am ready to do major Sanctions on Russia when all NATO Nations have agreed, and started, to do the same thing, and when all NATO Nations STOP BUYING OIL FROM RUSSIA,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sept. 13.

“As you know, NATO’S commitment to WIN has been far less than 100%, and the purchase of Russian Oil, by some, has been shocking! It greatly weakens your negotiating position, and bargaining power, over Russia,” Trump said.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
