Three Ohio Police Officers Shot In ‘Ambush’

Three police officers in Lorain, Ohio, were shot on Wednesday afternoon in what authorities described as an “ambush.”

According to multiple local reports, two of the officers were seriously wounded and life-flighted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, which is around 30 miles east of Lorain. The third officer was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect in the shooting was killed, according to Lorain Mayor Jack Bradley, who added that there was “no current threat” to the community.

The ambush and subsequent shooting took place around 1:15 p.m. ET at Colorado Industrial Park, according to News 5 Cleveland. Police responded to a shots fired call in the area when they were fired upon from a gunman in a tree line, according to authorities, Cleveland.com reported.

Police believe the suspect used a high-powered rifle, and it’s unclear if he was killed by return fire or by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators were also trying to determine if there was more than one suspect.

The shooting forced the East Lorain Horizon Education Center, a daycare, to go into lockdown.

“No one is going out of the center, no one will be permitted in until the situation is resolved,” read a statement from the daycare. “ALL the children are safe and secure.” Parents were instructed to pick up their children after the police reopened the roads in the area, Fox 8 reported.

Law enforcement and fire departments from the surrounding area responded to the scene, and a bomb squad arrived around two hours after the shooting, according to WKYC.

Ohio Republican Senators Bernie Moreno and Jon Husted said their teams were monitoring the situation.

“My team is monitoring this situation in Lorain and I’m keeping these officers and their families in my thoughts. Attacks on law enforcement are unacceptable and I’m proud to stand with our brave men and women in blue,” said Moreno.

“I have been monitoring the terrible situation in Lorain, where police officers were just ambushed,” added Husted. “There is no place for this kind of violence in our state or country. Tina and I are praying for these brave officers and their families, and we are grateful for the first responders. My team has reached out to local leaders to offer any assistance we can.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
