Lawmakers Applaud US Olympic Committee’s Ban on Trans-Identifying Males From Women’s Sports

Members of Congress are hailing the decision by the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee to update its policy to prohibit trans-identifying males from competing for the U.S. in women’s Olympic sports.
“The U.S. Olympic Committee finally did what should’ve been done all along to protect women’s sports. This is a major win for fairness and for every female athlete pushed aside by the Left’s radical gender fantasies,” Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., told The Daily Signal
“Thanks to President [Donald] Trump’s leadership and fearless advocates like Riley Gaines, common sense is making a comeback,” the Illinois congresswoman said.
The committee’s reformed Athlete Safety Policy explains that it will work to “ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201.” That executive order signed by President Donald Trump is titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” and prohibits educational institutions that receive federal funding from allowing trans-identifying males to compete in girls or women’s sports.
“Sanity has prevailed,” said Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga. The Georgia congressman, who is considering a 2026 Senate primary bid, told The Daily Signal that Trump’s executive order “delivered a victory for women’s sports and every athlete who dreams to compete in fair, safe competition.”
The change was formally acknowledged in a letter sent via email to members of Team USA Community Champions on Tuesday by the committee’s president and its secretary-general.
For its part, the Trump administration has vigorously pursued the issue of fair competition in women’s sports. It announced earlier this month a settlement with the University of Pennsylvania to prohibit males from participating in its female athletic programs.
Prior to taking its current stance on the issue, the USOPC had delegated the decisions regarding those matters to the individual national governing bodies of each sport.
“Our revised policy emphasizes the importance of ensuring fair and safe competition environments for women. All National Governing Bodies are required to update their applicable policies in alignment,” the heads of the USOPC wrote in a letter that acknowledged the need to comply with “federal expectations.” The USOPC is a federally chartered organization whose board of directors can be dissolved by Congress.
“As a mom and physician, I’ve long fought to protect women’s sports from radical gender ideology. President Trump’s executive order drew a clear line, and I’m proud to see the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee follow through. No male should ever compete in women’s events. We ban performance-enhancing drugs to preserve fairness. This is no different. This is a win for safety, competition, and every girl who wants a level playing field,” said Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa.
Rep. Michael Guest, R-Miss., explained his position to The Daily Signal. “You’re either born male or female. We must protect women’s sports for women and girls only. The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee has done the right thing in banning trans-identifying males from participating in female sports,” Guest said.
Rep. Mark Harris, R-N.C., told The Daily Signal that the “U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee was right to recognize this self-evident truth and ban male athletes from invading female sports.”
“Too many of our country’s young women have been cheated, made uncomfortable, and injured by the consequences of the Left’s acceptance of transgenderism, and thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we’re moving on as a nation from this insanity,” the North Carolina congressman continued.
“No matter what level of athletic competition, men should never be competing in women’s sports,” Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., said, adding:
President Trump’s executive order is common sense and protects women from potentially life-altering harm. I applaud the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee for adhering to this order.
The International Olympic Committee may join the U.S.’ lead in banning biological males from female competitions. The group recently elected Olympic gold medalist Kirsty Coventry as its first female president. She supported a ban on males in women’s Olympic sports in her campaign to be the organization’s president.
