NEW POLL: In Wake of Biles-Gaines Feud, Americans Overwhelmingly Support Protecting Women’s Sports

As the Trump administration cracks down on federal funding that supports the “transgender” agenda, Americans have displayed an overwhelming support for one issue in particular. A new poll found that a vast majority (72%) of Americans support keeping biological males who “identify” as women out of women’s sports.

The poll, conducted by Napolitan News Service, asked registered voters about sports, bathroom, and locker room policies for so-called transgender individuals. Sixty-nine percent of respondents also reported that transgender males—men identifying as women—should not be allowed to use women’s facilities.

Exactly half of Democrats supported keeping males out of women’s sports, 32% opposed it, and a sizeable 17% were “not sure.” Among Republicans, 88% supported women-only sports, 10% opposed, and only 2% were unsure.

Men showed more support for women-only sports than women did (76% to 68%, respectively). Women were even less supportive of keeping men out of women’s bathrooms, showers, and locker rooms: only 66% said males identifying as women should not be allowed to use these spaces, compared to 73% of men who favored the prohibition.

The survey also examined the frequency of pronoun usage. Just above half (51%) of respondents reported that someone had requested they use specific pronouns when referring to them, but a much smaller percentage (17%) said they themselves had requested to be addressed with their preferred pronouns.

The percentage of people requesting that others use their preferred pronouns increased as respondents’ level of college education increased. Eleven percent of those with some level of college education but no degree reported requesting preferred pronouns, while 17% with a bachelor’s degree wanted to use them and 33% with a post-graduate degree did.

Napolitan News Service conducted the poll just days after the X feud between Olympic gymnast Simone Biles and swimmer Riley Gaines gained national attention. After Gaines posted a comment criticizing a women’s high school softball team that had a biological male among its ranks, Biles responded with a defense of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports and a condemnation of Gaines’ views, body-shaming the swimmer and drawing criticism from both sides of the issue. Biles eventually apologized for her personal attacks on Gaines.

The national poll, conducted from June 11-12, gathered 1,000 responses from registered voters. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
