Vance Promotes One Big Beautiful Bill Act: ‘Great American Companies Are Thriving Once Again!’

Vice President JD Vance arrived at the Akron-Canton Airport on Monday to promote the One Big Beautiful Bill Act at the Metallus factory. The Daily Signal was present as part of the vice president’s pool.
Vance highlighted major elements of the bill signed July 4 by President Donald Trump. Acknowledging that many factory workers in the crowd worked overtime shifts, Vance assured them that “every single one of you, when you work an overtime shift, the federal government is not going to take a dime out of that overtime pay!”
“Because if you’re spending hours away from your family, the federal government ought to keep its hands the hell out of your pocket when you’re doing it,” Vance said to applause.
The vice president also touted no tax on tips. “That’s something that’s going to benefit communities right here in Northeast Ohio.”
Another major theme of the speech involved promoting “Made in America,” as Vance called to mind factories closing and the loss of jobs for Americans. Under the leadership of Trump, however, as the vice president said to applause, “great American companies are thriving once again.” The Rust Belt is “coming back to life under Donald J. Trump,” Vance promised.
He also had a warning for Democrats who voted against the bill, including Rep. Emilia Sykes, D-Ohio, whom he went after during his remarks and when taking a question from The Daily Signal.
“You know why she’s not here today? Because she’s not celebrating no taxes on tips. She’s not celebrating no taxes on overtime. She’s not celebrating the highest take-home pay in years because she fought us every step of the way on the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,'” Vance said, noting Sykes’ absence.
Sykes’ office did not return a request for comment.
Vance also knocked Sykes for not doing more to get the bill to a point where she could have voted for it. When taking a question from The Daily Signal, he called it “the craziest thing” that Democrats would not work on the bill.
Said Vance, “Anybody who voted against it, I think they ought to pay a penalty, because they voted against all those great things against the people of Akron and the people of Northeastern Ohio.”
“This is the process of government. And these guys didn’t even come to the White House and try to make their concerns known. They didn’t try to make the legislation better. They just attack, attack, attack!” Vance then accused Democrats of trying to impeach Trump, as well as having “an obsession” with illegal immigrants. “I don’t think the American people should reward that broken style of politics, and I don’t think they’re going to, come November 2026.”
The vice president, in response to a question from The Daily Signal, further explained why the One Big Beautiful Bill Act will benefit Republicans in the midterms. “It’s going to help us, because when you help people, when you give people a tax cut,” Vance shared. “When you lower taxes on overtime, I believe the people reward you with their votes. That’s what it’s all about!”
Speaking about “making promises and keeping those promises,” Vance offered that “that’s how you earn people’s trust, and that’s how you earn people’s vote, and that’s why I think it’s going to benefit the Republican Party. Because we made those promises, we said we’re going to cut taxes on tips, we said we’re going to cut taxes on overtime, we said we’re going to penalize foreign nations and foreign corporations for taking advantage of American workers and that’s exactly what President Trump has done, and I hope the people will reward us for it!”
Monday was the second stop Vance has made to promote the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as he appeared earlier this month in West Pittston, Pennsylvania. The area is represented by Rep. Rob Bresnahan, a Republican who flipped the district last year.
“House Republicans are taking the fight to Democrats and making sure voters know the One Big, Beautiful Bill is delivering real tax relief, stronger borders, and lower costs. Vice President Vance’s visits highlight the real wins in this bill for working families and only boosts our momentum,” National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Mike Marinella said in an exclusive quote for The Daily Signal.
To close his remarks, Vance added a special note for those factory workers in attendance, telling them that “you are the people who Make America Great Again.”
