WATCH: Maine Gov Dodges Questions About Trans Sports, Family Ties To Trans Industry

Maine Democrat Governor Janet Mills dodged questions from a reporter on Wednesday about her unpopular position on transgender sports policies.

“[Gov. Janet Mills] refuses to address questions about why she supports men in women’s sports — and her family’s ties to the transgender medicine industry,” Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan captioned video of the interaction on X.

Mills’ sister, Dora Anne Mills, is chief health improvement officer at MaineHealth, a massive health care system in Maine that offers damaging and irreversible “treatments” for gender-confused minors, such as puberty blockers, “gender affirming hormone therapy,” and “menstrual suppression,'” The Daily Wire recently reported. MaineHealth was also a top donor to Mills’ 2022 gubernatorial run.

“Governor, why won’t you support women’s sports?” Mills is pressed, per video. The governor refuses to answer, turns her back on the reporter, and walks away.

“Why won’t you support women’s sports?” the reporter again asks Mills, who shakes her head and smiles. “Is it because your sister works for an organization that provides transgender services to minors?”

Though Maine residents strongly oppose males in female sports, Mills has refused to budge on the issue, or other unpopular trans issues, such as permitting the mutilation of minors in the name of so-called trans health care.

A poll exclusively provided to The Daily Wire in March showed that 63% of Maine residents said school sports participation should be based on biological sex, with 66% agreeing it’s “only fair to restrict women’s sports to biological women.”

Moreover, the federal government has filed a lawsuit against Maine and frozen federal funds for the state, given Mills’ refusals to adhere to Title IX rules and protect female sports.

A number of cases where male athletes have topped females in girls’ sports have become rallying cries for those fighting for safety and fairness. Most notably, a male athlete took first place in a Maine state final for girls’ pole vaulting back in February, after the male previously competed as a boy, The Daily Wire reported.

“He beat every female by a significant margin, qualifying him for regional championships. That took a spot away from a young woman,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said at a presser announcing her lawsuit against Maine.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
