Lawmakers, Spouses Gunned Down In ‘Targeted’ Shootings

UPDATE:

Gov. Tim Walz confirmed on Saturday morning that state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were both killed. He called the attack a “politically motivated assassination.”

Original report:

Two Minnesota Democratic lawmakers and their spouses were reportedly gunned down in “targeting” shootings on Friday night.

State Sen. John Hoffman and state Rep. Melissa Hortman and their spouses were shot by a suspect allegedly impersonating a police officer in Champlin and Brooklyn Park, according to FOX 9 Minneapolis.

The condition of the lawmakers and their spouses is currently unknown.

There is a manhunt underway for the suspect, who is described as a white male with brown hair, wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants, Fox 9 reports.

Democrat Gov. Tim Walz posted on Saturday morning that he’s been briefed on the situation.

“I’ve been briefed this morning on an ongoing situation involving targeted shootings in Champlin and Brooklyn Park,” he said. “The Minnesota Department of Public Safety and local law enforcement are on the scene. We will share more information soon.”

“I’ve activated the State Emergency Operations Center,” he added in a follow-up post. “Local law enforcement in Champlin and Brooklyn Park have the full resources of the State of Minnesota behind them. We are monitoring the situation closely and will share more information soon.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
