Suspect Charged In North Carolina Dockside Shooting That Killed 3, Injured 8

Three people were killed and eight were injured when an alleged U.S. veteran who claimed he was suffering from PTSD fired into a dockside North Carolina restaurant, killing three people and leaving at least one other person fighting for their life.

The suspect was named by the Southport Police Department as Nigel Max Edge, arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, with additional charges pending.

“We believe that this was a targeted location,” Southport Police Chief Todd Coring stated at a press conference. “He acted in what we call a ‘lone wolf.’ He acted alone. This is highly premeditated from what we are seeing at this time and we feel that there are no other threats to our community, that we do have someone in custody.”

He added that an active investigation is underway.

Coring continued that the suspect identified as a combat veteran injured in the line of duty and said he suffered from PTSD.

“On Saturday, September 27, 2025 at approximately 9:30 PM, members of the Southport Police Department were dispatched to calls of shots fired with multiple injuries at the American Fish Company, located at 150 Yacht Basin Dr, Southport, NC 28461,” the Southport, North Carolina, Facebook page stated. “Just prior, a boat with a single occupant traveling on the Cape Fear River, paused briefly at the American Fish Company and opened fire, fatally wounding three patrons, and injuring at least eight others. The boat then fled the area, towards the Intracoastal Waterway in the direction of Oak Island. Shortly after 10:00 PM, the U.S. Coast Guard observed a single individual matching the description of the shooter, loading their boat at the public boat ramp at NE 55th Street in Oak Island. The Coast Guard crew detained this suspect.”

The suspect reportedly was formerly known as Sean William DeBevoise, who authored a book titled, “Headshot: Betrayal of a Nation.” In the author’s comments about the book, he stated, “The attacks on 9/11 would decide my future for me. I enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and deployed 3 times; first to Haiti’s political turmoil, then to Iraq twice. Returning from the warzone severely wounded, my life would never be the same as it once was.”

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
