‘Winning Streak’: Trump Scores Peace, Trade Deals in Scotland

President Donald Trump’s weekend in Scotland has yielded a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia and a trade deal with the European Union.

“President Trump is on a winning streak in Scotland—from peace deals to trade deals, this president has proven to be the ultimate negotiator and Deal Maker in Chief on behalf of the American people,” assistant press secretary Taylor Rogers told The Daily Signal.

The president negotiated an “immediate and unconditional” ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia after five days of deadly border clashes killing dozens and displacing hundreds of thousands.

“We solved it through trade,” Trump said. “I said, ‘I don’t want to trade with anybody that’s killing each other.'”

Trump spoke to both parties over the weekend and told them he doesn’t want to make a deal with a country that is fighting. He said on TruthSocial after the conversations that “Ceasefire, Peace, and Prosperity seems to be a natural.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim confirmed the ceasefire takes effect at midnight local time.

“Both Cambodia and Thailand reached a common understanding,” Anwar said after the talks. “This is a vital first step toward a de-escalation and the restoration of peace and security.”

Trump also announced a trade deal with the European Union after meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The EU was due to get hit with a 30% tariff rate on Aug. 1, but Trump and von der Leyen agreed on trade terms that include a 15% rate on most EU products as well as hundreds of billions of dollars of investments in American industry.

The EU will invest $600 billion in the U.S. and buy $750 billion of U.S. energy, with “vast amounts” of American weapons also in the mix, Trump said. The president said the EU will be “opening up their countries at zero tariff.”

The French believe the settlement of the trade deal made a “sombre day” for Europe.

“It is a sombre day when an alliance of free peoples, brought together to affirm their common values and to defend their common interests, resigns itself to submission,” French Prime Minister François Bayrou wrote on X.

“The trade agreement negotiated by the European Commission with the United States will bring temporary stability to economic actors threatened by the escalation of American tariffs, but it is unbalanced,” French European Affairs Minister Benjamin Haddad said on X.

On Monday, the president is meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer to discuss trade and the poor conditions for residents of Gaza.

First Minister of Scotland John Swinney will join the two for dinner. He has said he will use his meeting with the president to make the case for cutting tariffs on Scotch whisky.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
