A Brutal Day To Forget If You’re A New York Sports Fan

I’m not sure what New York sports fans could have done to piss off the sports gods this badly, but they are coming down on the Big Apple in full force today.

Things seemed to be trending upward for NYC sports after a long period of disappointment. The New York Knicks were coming off an NBA Finals win earlier this year, seemingly lifting a curse over the city. If the Knicks could do it, anyone could.

It started to look that way. The New York Giants were 1-0 for the first time since 2022 and the New York Yankees were heating up right before the playoffs. But on Tuesday, New York sports fans were given terrible news just after lunch when it was announced that stars Aaron Judge and Jaxson Dart were going to miss extended time.

Breaking: The Yankees do not expect to have Aaron Judge available for the Wild Card series next week, manager Aaron Boone said.

Judge will miss the entire Wild Card Series, where the Yankees are currently slated to play the Boston Red Sox. Despite a series win against their rivals last month without the slugger, the Yankees were happy to have Judge’s bat back in the lineup after he just returned from more than three months on the injured list. It’s unclear whether he can return later in the playoffs if the Yankees advance past the first round.

Judge told reporters that he would not need to undergo tests.

On the other hand, Dart’s testing after the Monday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Rams revealed a much worse diagnosis than was previously expected. During the broadcast, Laura Rutledge said that Giants general manager Joe Schoen told her “he will be OK,” but the latest from Adam Schefter is anything but OK.

After the game, it truly did seem like Dart was going to miss a good chunk of time, but still return later this season. He was standing on the sidelines fully clothed, walking around after his exit. Now, there is genuine fear that he’ll miss the next 15 games.

A promising start to the season after a dominant win over the division rival Dallas Cowboys has come crashing down following Dart’s injury, as the offense looked horrendous with Jameis Winston at the helm.

The Judge and Dart news came like a 1-2 punch, and it’s hard not to feel for the New York fans who have seemingly already been through enough.
