Washtenaw County prosecutors have authorized criminal charges against the University of Michigan student accused of assaulting conservative activists during a free-speech event on campus.

On Sunday, Nov. 1, Liberty Under Fire USA set up a table on University of Michigan‘s campus to foster open political conversations. Instead, the group was met with violence.

Conservative political influencers Liz Benichou, Cam Higby and Joe Redden arranged the event to hold conversations on free speech, the Michigan Senate race, plus Islam and the impacts it could have on American culture.

A sign at the table for passing students to answer asked, “Is Islam Compatible with the West?”

A student from the university, identified as Temulun Togochog, came up to the table to make a point about the sign. However, instead of engaging in conversation she turned the encounter into a physical confrontation.

Benichou told Fox News that she witnessed Togochog approach the table and slap Redden, who was sitting behind the table, in the face with her phone. Moments later the student denied hitting him.

Togochog dressed like a typical college student wearing leggings and a T-shirt approached Benichou who was standing nearby. The situation escalated after Benichou asked her, “What would happen to you in Iran if you were dressed like that?”

Rather than respond, Togochog is seen in the video of the confrontation aggressively shoving Benichou to the ground onto grass and attempted to kick her multiple times.

University of Michigan police quickly stepped in and took Togochog into custody. As officers attempted to handcuff her, she resisted and shouted threats at Benichou, including, “I should have killed her.”

As police continued struggling to detain Togochog, she yelled abusive language, at one point saying, “What the f— are you going to do to me because I hit a f—— dumb a– b—- in the face?”

The University of Michigan Police Department said, “The student was taken into custody, processed and released. The incident has been forwarded to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s office for review.”

After reviewing the case, the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office then authorized the three charges against Togochog.

“We thoroughly reviewed the evidence that was submitted to us,” Alyssa Fountain, an administrative assistant with the prosecutor’s office, told Jewish News Syndicate.

No court date has been set, but a felony warrant will be issued, and a court date will be scheduled after Togochog is arraigned.

How the University of Michigan Reacted

Joe Redden, a conservative influencer who was present during the incident, said that the university reached out on the student’s behalf to ask for the video of her assaulting Benichou be taken down.

“The University of Michigan wants us to take down our videos of the girl assaulting us because THE GIRL WHO ASSAULTED US is getting negative attention!” Redden wrote on X.

Redden said, “The University of Michigan had the nerve to reach out to us. The people who were assaulted. And ask us to take down our videos because of the negative blow back on her.”

“This is why the Left thinks violence is okay,” he continued.

Before prosecutors announced the charges, Redden argued that Togochog was facing no consequences from the university for the alleged assault.

“And the only consequences she is dealing with which is negative attention online. And her university who is refusing to punish her is asking us to take the videos down,” said Redden.

Laura Ingraham interviewed Benichou about the incident, calling the video “disturbing not only for you and your safety,” and warning that there are “a lot more of those lunatic leftists out there who are popping off, raging and ready to just rip down this country.”

Benichou said the confrontation began simply because she tried to have an open conversation with Togochog.

Benichou recalled another threat Togochog made as police were taking her away.

“She has been in a mental institution before and she would be happy to go back if it meant she got to kill me,” Benichou said. “I did, however, go to the hospital, the University of Michigan Hospital yesterday, where they did tell me that assault is actually very common on campus.”

“Campus should be a place where students can feel safe and free,” Benichou added.

Benichou argued that the incident points to a broader problem with lenient approaches to crime on college campuses.

“And now I know that this woman is walking freely around campus once again because of these soft-on-crime policies here,” Benichou said.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
