Comrade El-Sayed’s Illiberal Alliance Looks Like Lenin In A Keffiyeh
Some have been warning of the red-green alliance for years. And unfortunately my friends, it’s here, and it’s running for U.S. Senate in Michigan.

I present to you: Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed. Capitalist, if you ask him. Full-blown communist with an Islamist streak, if you judge by literally everything he’s said on tape in the last five seconds.
He embodies the exact red-green alliance that author and activist Ayaan Hirsi Ali has spent two decades explaining, and she’s about as qualified on this issue as a person gets. Born in Somalia, she survived genital mutilation arranged by her own grandmother while her father sat in prison for political dissent. She fled an arranged marriage, renounced Islam, and has lived under death threats ever since she exposed the truth about the clan.
Her argument, boiled down, is that the “red” are the communists, Marxists, and far-left revolutionaries; the “green” are the Islamists. Their agendas could not be more opposed on paper; one waves rainbow flags, the other stones people for wearing them. One wants a theocracy, the other wants to abolish God along with the bourgeoisie. But they’ve discovered a shared hatred of the West, individual liberty, and the American experiment itself. As Hirsi Ali puts it, it’s a watermelon: green on the outside, red on the inside. They tolerate each other’s contradictions because both want to hollow out the liberal order that protects the rest of us.
Isn’t that sweet?
The poster boy of this phenomenon is El-Sayed. He spent his primary campaign insisting he wasn’t a democratic socialist, just a capitalist who hates capitalism. But on the “Head in the Office” podcast, when asked whether he backed Bernie Sanders’ plan for public ownership of AI companies, El-Sayed didn’t just agree; he one-upped the octogenarian communist: “I want to actually take it a step further… we need some system of public control.”
Ahh. So he’s Lenin in a keffiyeh.
We should have known. The America-hater is best friends and campaign partners with Twitch’s own Marxist nepo-baby, Hasan Piker, who this week helpfully clarified where he stands on the founding documentation of this country: “F*ck the Constitution. I wipe my a** with the Constitution. It’s a f*cking piece of paper. Motherf*ck the Constitution and motherf*ck this country.”
Charming.
I take it that neither of them cares too much about the Fourth or Fifth Amendments, which prevent the government from taking or searching your property without due process.
Why anyone’s still trying to reheat this plate of Lenin leftovers is beyond me. Because the Lenin leftovers don’t taste good, and they never did. His war communism produced famine. Stalin’s collectivization starved millions in the Holodomor. Mao’s Great Leap Forward delivered the deadliest famine in human history. Venezuela’s “21st-century socialism” turned an oil-rich nation into a basket case of empty shelves and mass emigration. America tried something new and created a process; the American Dream: you work hard, keep what you earn, and hand something better to your kids. Communism’s opening move, every single time, is demanding that dream belongs to the state. Comrade El-Sayed and his red half of the watermelon wish to crush your engine of mobility, in the name of equity.
Then comes the fruit’s green shell. Islam. El-Sayed has described following Sharia Law as a personal “obligation” until the day he dies. He has opposed bans on Sharia in American courts, arguing that the forces pushing such measures are the same ones responsible for the Trail of Tears, the Tulsa massacre, and even the Oklahoma City bombing. Which is quite an impressive list of historical evils to pin on people who simply prefer one legal system rooted in the Constitution.
Then there was that endearing time when El-Sayed declined to comment publicly on the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, explaining there “are a lot of people in Dearborn who are sad.” His voters mourned the world’s deadliest theocrat. In the name of Allah.
Fabulous.
His campaign security official, Jordan Domingue, a Marine who protected him for years across campaigns, saw this Arabic on the wall, resigned, and publicly warned that El-Sayed holds extreme Islamist-adjacent views, shows sympathy for positions that soft-pedal terrorist groups, and harbors deep anti-American sentiment. Domingue described the Senate-hopeful as a chameleon who practices strategic ambiguity, especially when speaking about Iran’s regime or its proxies. Add a Senate Judiciary subcommittee hearing this month where a counterterrorism analyst testified that El-Sayed’s family ties and campaign associations connect back to Muslim Brotherhood-linked networks and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and you get the green.
This is the marriage Hirsi Ali warned about: illiberalism dressed up in liberal language, using tolerance as the crowbar to pry open the door for something considerably less tolerant.
The result is gradual normalization through amplified Islamic calls to prayer at 3:30 a.m. and school teachers who are suspended and driven into hiding for showing a historical Muhammad cartoon in a lesson on free speech, and Islamic foot washing stations in airports, all while anyone who objects gets the “bigot” label slapped on before the next Adhan sounds.
The common enemy, liberal democracy, loses ground one Islamophobia accusation at a time.
That’s the playbook, and El-Sayed is running it. Sure, he’s not technically a card-carrying DSA member. That’s the loophole he’s counting on. But when you don’t believe in shared truth, when words are just tools and the Constitution is something you wipe your backside with, you get to call yourself a capitalist on Tuesday and a Jihai revolutionary on Wednesday. If you don’t pay close enough attention, you won’t notice the wicked watermelon until it’s too late.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali survived the real thing to warn us what it looks like when it’s coming. Michigan, consider yourselves warned.
