DHS Considers Blocking Some Foreign Pregnant Women From Entering U.S.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Thursday that he’s working on a plan to block heavily pregnant foreign women from entering the United States to prevent the abuse of birthright citizenship.

During a FOX News interview Thursday morning, Mullin shared that he’s working with the Justice Department and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to determine “how we can stop some of this birthright citizenship by saying maybe you shouldn’t come to the country if you are late into your third term.”

“We don’t allow sick individuals to come here if they are coming from an area that could possibly come in and spread a disease,” Mullin said. “There is precedent for us to look into saying it’s not safe for you to travel. I know my grandson was just recently born and her OB-GYN didn’t want her flying late into her third trimester.”

“So maybe we should be looking at this — they shouldn’t be coming in late into pregnancies because I think at that point, we could cut down a lot of this birthright citizenship too,” he added.

Mullin’s comments come after a federal judge on Wednesday blocked the Trump administration’s latest attempt at ending birthright citizenship.

In June, the Supreme Court ruled against President Donald Trump’s earlier executive order seeking to deny citizenship to the children born to noncitizens in the United States.

Following the high court’s ruling, Trump signed two executive orders, one aimed at curbing birth tourism and another seeking to prevent visa fraud for those intending to have babies on U.S. soil.

“The Supreme Court has spoken: Children in the certified class are ‘citizens at birth,'” Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge Deborah L. Boardman wrote in her ruling Wednesday.

The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) estimates that between 20,000 and 26,000 birth tourists enter the United States annually.

Dr. Wladimir Lorentz, the founder of a birthing center marketed to foreign nationals as “Have My Baby in Miami,” was subpoenaed to testify before Congress Tuesday, but invoked the Fifth Amendment and refused to answer questions.

Another birthing center, De’Ai Postpartum Care Center in Houston, is the subject of a state lawsuit in Texas for allegedly “exploiting birthright citizenship by unlawfully facilitating the invasion of Chinese nationals … for the sole purpose of giving birth.” The clinic claimed to have facilitated 1,000 births.

The Daily Wire previously visited the homes the clinic allegedly used to house pregnant Chinese women.

Earlier this year, Lone Star State officials opened an investigation into a hospital that placed billboards in Mexico advertising “birth packages in South Texas” as part of an alleged “birth tourism” scheme.

The billboards offered “birth packages” of up to $5,525 through a website named “havemybabyinTEXAS.com.” The webpage later quietly went offline, according to Chron.com.
