Diane Keaton’s Cause Of Death Revealed: Family Thanks Fans For Outpouring Of Love

The family of actress Diane Keaton said her cause of death was pneumonia.

Hollywood is still in mourning for the Oscar-winning actress, who died at the age of 79 on Saturday.

“The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,” a statement shared with People said.

“She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her,” the statement went on.

A source told the outlet that her death was “unexpected” after a rapid decline in her health.

“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening,” the insider said.

Keaton, who was never married and adopted two children later in life, has been honored by many of her former Hollywood co-stars. Her former romantic partner, Woody Allen, said the world was “drearier” without her in it.

Keaton had a long career in film and television, making more than 60 films over six decades. In 1968, she was cast as an understudy in the Broadway musical “Hair,” and later appeared in Allen’s “Play It Again, Sam” in 1969.

In the 1970s, Keaton began her rise to stardom with roles in “The Godfather” and “Annie Hall,” another collaboration with Allen, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Of working on “The Godfather,” Keaton told People: “I think the kindest thing that someone’s ever done for me … is that I got cast to be in The Godfather and I didn’t even read it. I didn’t know a single thing. … I just was going around auditioning. I think that was amazing for me. And then I had to kind of read the book.”

Keaton’s most notable roles included parts in “Crimes of the Heart,” “Father of the Bride,” “The First Wives Club,” and “Something’s Gotta Give,” among many others. She also worked in television, with roles in “Mannix” and, more recently, “The Young Pope” and “Amelia Earhart: The Final Flight,” for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award.

Fibis I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
