Michigan Democrat Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed urged reporters to focus their questions on anything other than his fellow Democrat Haley Stevens issuing a surprise endorsement of Republican nominee Mike Rogers on Sunday, just two days before voters go to the polls.

El-Sayed spoke to reporters outside a church Sunday afternoon alongside Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) and a group of black supporters as the leftist Muslim attempts to make last-minute inroads with Detroit’s large black voting bloc before the election. Before taking questions, El-Sayed begged reporters to ask about “issues the people in my state are facing” and not about Stevens, who released a video statement earlier on Sunday endorsing Rogers and ripping El-Sayed’s “hate.”

“I’m not in the business of driving clicks for you,” El-Sayed said. “I’m in the business of trying to solve problems for people in my state, so if you want to ask questions about the issues that the people in my state are facing, I am happy to answer them.”

“If you want to ask me questions about some intrigue and about two folks who aren’t here right now,” he added, speaking of Stevens and Rogers. “I’m gonna be less interested in answering them. Just putting it out there.”

El-Sayed then took his first question from leftist commentator Don Lemon, who floated a softball question for the Democrat, asking, “Why is this day so important to you?” When another reporter asked El-Sayed about Stevens’ endorsement, he shot back, saying it doesn’t matter and that he “doesn’t think about Haley Stevens.”

“I’m a lot more focused on the 9,999,998 [Michiganders] that are not the ones you guys are talking about,” he added.

Stevens, who narrowly lost the Democrat primary to El-Sayed in August, issued her shocking endorsement of Rogers on Sunday after initially backing El-Sayed in the general election. The Democrat congresswoman flipped her endorsement to Rogers after expressing disgust with El-Sayed’ ties to America-hating communist streamer Hasan Piker. She also blasted El-Sayed after he ran a campaign ad featuring commentator Tucker Carlson.

Stevens had planned to campaign with El-Sayed but said on Sunday that El-Sayed “made very clear that I was not welcome in his campaign, that he didn’t need me there.”

“My vote for Senate is going to be with Mike Rogers,” Stevens added. “We have to stand with country, we can’t stand with hate, we can’t stand with Hasan Piker… I stood with my party and I was booed off the stage.”

Stevens has also expressed concern that El-Sayed has failed to reach out to black voters. On Sunday, El-Sayed appeared with Rep. Clyburn, whom Democrats often rely on to gin up support for the party’s candidates ahead of important elections. El-Sayed struggled in heavily black counties in the primary election against Stevens.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
