Michigan Senate Democrat candidate Abdul El-Sayed sought to shore up support from Muslim voters at Islamic centers where speakers referred to America as the house of Satan and prayed for “the worst revenge” upon “the Zionists,” a new report found.

El-Sayed appeared at the Islamic Center of Detroit in March 2026, where he hoped to drive Muslim turnout in the Democrat Senate primary at the time. The same day, a closing prayer was given in Arabic at the center asking for the “worst revenge” to be taken upon “the Zionists,” according to a translation of the prayer from the Middle East Forum and Just the News.
“O our Lord, the Zionists have spread corruption in the land. Your forbearance has deceived them, so show them Your power, O Compeller. They killed our brothers and sisters, so take the worst revenge upon them,” a speaker at the Islamic center prayed, according to the translation.
“Lie in wait for them, our Lord. Raise no banner for them in the lands of the Muslims […] and foil their plans in every time and place,” the speaker continued.
The event footage did not reveal whether El-Sayed remained in attendance when the prayer was delivered. It did come after he explicitly called for attendees to help him become the first Muslim elected to the Senate.
“I want to be able to tell a story about how a community stood up, inspired by the responsibility to lift our voices, and that we were able to secure the first-ever Muslim American in the U.S. Senate. But that means that we’ve gotta show up,” El-Sayed said. “So if you are not registered, make sure you register.”
The Daily Wire reached out to the Islamic Center of Detroit for comment.
The center once featured a speaker who attempted to rewrite history by claiming that America did not have a Christian heritage, but was instead founded on Islamic values. He went as far as to claim Thomas Jefferson’s writing of the Declaration of Independence was inspired by Islamic ideas.
“It is important for us to be able and ready to say no: this is not a Christian country; this was not built by the Judeo-Christian tradition. It was built actually against it. It was built upon the Islamic ideology,” Dr. Zulfiqar Shah said in January 2025 during a talk at the center.
During the same talk, he referred to the United States as the “House of Shaitan,” or House of Satan.
Another speaker at the center once delivered an impassioned plea for the global “mujahideen,” or jihad fighters, according to a translation from the Middle East Forum. “O Allah, grant victory to your soldiers, the mujahideen, everywhere. O Allah, grant victory to our oppressed brothers in Gaza,” a speaker said in March 2024.
El-Sayed has received support from other Michigan Muslim organizations, including the Muslim Educational Community Center of America in Canton.
“One of the things that we have to do is that we have to participate in the elections,” the group’s founder, Sayed Saleh Qazwini, said in July 2026. “Today in Michigan, we have a chance at bringing the first Muslim anti-war senator that does not take money from foreign lobbies. And this is Abdul El-Sayed, who is running in the primary.”
In another instance flagged by the Middle East Media Research Institute, Qazwini said that “it’s mandatory to go and to elect brother Abdul El-Sayed because at least we know he’s a Muslim; he will support Muslim issues here in this country.”
Qazwini once referred to the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, killed in joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran in February, as a martyr.
El-Sayed’s campaign has long been dogged by his ties to Islamic radicalism, including questions about his family’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood and his vow to live in compliance with Sharia law. His opponent, Republican Mike Rogers, argues that electing El-Sayed to the Senate could compromise national security.
