Since the beginning of July, Musk has donated more than $276 million to Republican groups and the super PAC he founded, according to figures his representatives provided to the New York Times.
His $158 million in donations this summer to the Senate Leadership Fund amounted to one of the largest political contributions in the country’s history — and Musk’s money alone exceeded everything its Democratic counterpart, Senate Majority PAC, raised from all of its donors during the quarter.
Musk also donated more than $76 million to the super PAC he created in 2024 to help elect President Donald Trump, America PAC. The group is active in seven Senate battlegrounds and nearly three dozen House races.
Other contributions included $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC — the group supporting Texas Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton against James Talarico — $10 million to the Republican Governors Association, and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association, according to the Times.
Musk has now given roughly $366 million to federal committees during the 2025-26 election cycle, surpassing the roughly $290 million he gave during the 2024 election. That comes despite his May 2025 statement that he would scale back his political spending and “do a lot less in the future.”
America PAC spokesman Andrew Romeo said the donations give Republicans a “fighting chance” in November.
“If Democrats take control of Washington and win key gubernatorial and attorney general races this November, then America risks becoming a socialist, woke and borderless country,” Romeo said. “These robust investments have allowed the G.O.P. apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history.”
The report comes as polling continues to look bleak for the GOP, though Republicans still hold a significant financial advantage. According to a leading political advertising tracking firm AdImpact, Republican campaigns, committees, and allied groups have outspent their Democratic counterparts by $400 million this election cycle.
