ESPN Analyst Charged In Crash As Fantasy Football ‘Charity League’ Controversy Explodes

ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller is facing a misdemeanor charge stemming from his near-fatal car accident in June, amid complaints that he was cheating fantasy football players out of their winnings.

Miller is being charged with “failure to drive on right half of roadway when roadway was of sufficient width, resulting in an accident,” based on Jasper County court records filed Monday. As seen in the video, Miller’s Ford Bronco veered off his side of the road before colliding with a semi-truck.

The 43-year old analyst revealed on X that the June 17 accident had resulted in life-threatening injuries, requiring “50 units of blood, [life]-saving [brachial] surgery, compound femur surgery, shattered patella surgery, shoulder surgery, plus some broken ribs.” On top of that, Miller said he was being placed on leave after the amputation of his arm.

Authorities reported that it was “unknown” whether Miller was under the influence of any kind. Miller said that he had no memory of the moments before he crashed.

Miller is required to appear in a Missouri courtroom on September 21, according to court records.

The car crash came just weeks before the Missouri Attorney General’s Office launched an investigation into Miller regarding his “charity” activity. In the weeks leading up to his accident, claims circulated on social media that Miller was scamming members of fantasy football leagues he was hosting and not paying out the winners.

More posts claimed his “charity foundation” — giving away NFL memorabilia and exclusive scouting reports for donations — was not holding up its end of the bargain either. Already-suspicious critics gave him even more flak when his family posted a GoFundMe to raise money for his surgeries.

The analyst hosted 91 leagues on Sleeper, a fantasy sports platform, which would have generated roughly $100,000 in entry fees, according to an estimate by The Athletic. On May 7, 2026, Miller’s account was banned on Sleeper for “stealing buy-ins from managers and not paying out league winners.” After ESPN caught wind of the scheme, Miller began to pay people back before crashing his Bronco into oncoming traffic.

When the investigation was launched, the office received over 20 official complaints by the following Wednesday.

“Our office has an ongoing investigation stemming from approximately 26 complaints about Mr. Miller or connected entities,” a spokesperson from the Missouri Attorney General’s Office told The Daily Wire. “Because the investigation is ongoing, the information we can share is limited. The scope of our investigation does encompass allegations relating to fantasy football leagues where consumers have complained that no product or minimal product was delivered.”

ESPN declined to provide The Daily Wire with any additional comment on either Miller’s misdemeanor charge or the ongoing investigation into the analyst.
