British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said Monday that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “almost certainly” directed a suspected plot targeting RAF Fairford, a U.S.-run military air base in England that has supported American operations against Iran.

“I can confirm our assessment that it is highly likely to have been coordinated in Iran, almost certainly directed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard,” Burnham told lawmakers. “We will not tolerate these threats on our soil.”
Burnham had previously said there were strong indications Iran was involved in the suspected plot to attack the base.
The United States, United Kingdom, and 30 other countries issued a joint statement Monday condemning Iran’s use of violence, including alleged lethal plots, arson, sabotage, cyberattacks, and other hostile activities against them and their partners.
“Any attempt by Iran to threaten, silence, intimidate, harass, harm, or coerce people on our territories through proxies or any other means is unacceptable,” the statement read. “Anyone who conducts hostile activities on behalf of Iran, or any other state, should know that we will take action to identify, investigate, disrupt, and prosecute these acts.”
The signatories recognized Britain’s assessment that Iran was involved in the Sept. 27 incident at RAF Fairford. They also said the episode demonstrated the Revolutionary Guard’s continued willingness to conduct hostile operations beyond Iran’s borders through covert networks and proxy actors.
“Iran should be in no doubt that we are united and remain committed to safeguarding our sovereignty and strengthening our international coordination, bolstering our national resilience, protecting our communities, and ensuring that those responsible are held to account,” the countries added.
The statement referenced a recent campaign of attacks across Europe targeting Jewish communities, Iranian journalists, and U.S. interests. Those attacks were claimed by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya, known as HAYI.
The countries that signed the statement include the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden.
The investigation into the suspected plot has resulted in seven arrests, but all seven men have been released on bail, and no one has been charged.
The suspects are all in their 20s. Six are British nationals, while one holds dual British-Iranian citizenship.
The investigation began after a local farmer reported suspicious vehicles and men running near RAF Fairford on Sept. 27. Scores of residents were evacuated from nearby homes as armed police officers and army bomb-disposal experts searched the area.
Police later said they recovered gasoline from three vans linked to the initial five suspects but found no explosives.
The U.S. military withdrew all 12 B-1 bombers deployed to RAF Fairford last week. According to The New York Times, U.S. commanders received new warnings about a potential Iran-backed attack targeting the installation, prompting the rapid departure of the aircraft and their crews.
Iran has denied involvement in the suspected plot. Its embassy in London previously said it “categorically rejects and strongly condemns” speculation linking Tehran to the incident.
Late last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel had provided Britain with intelligence about a potential Iranian-sponsored attack.
“We gave the Brits the intel that there was going to be an attack, and it’s an Iranian-sponsored attack,” Netanyahu told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.
