Following Accusations of Illegal Voting in Georgia, DHS Issues Subpoena to Georgia Over Voter Files

Amid ongoing efforts by President Donald Trump to investigate election fraud following the 2020 election, the Department of Homeland Security has demanded that the Georgia Secretary of State’s office hand over 13 voter files.

A DHS spokesperson told the Daily Signal that “while ICE Homeland Security Investigations is not able to comment on any active investigations, HSI is actively rooting out and investigating election fraud wherever it can be found.”

The director of special projects for Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger’s office, Gabe Sterling, commented on the scope of the investigation, saying that because Georgia has more than 8 million registered voters, the demand is relatively small, Georgia Public Broadcasting reported. However, Sterling noted that the office is cooperating with the investigation.

In comments to the Daily Signal, Sterling said the investigation ties in with immigration.

“It’s an immigration investigation by DHS, so this could be for people they think might have potentially voted, or for people who are applying for citizenship—because if those people have illegally voted, then they don’t get citizenship,” he said.

“We know other states have had similar requests for information subpoenas, and that was the outcome from those inquiries,” Sterling added.

While Raffensperger has said that Georgia’s voter registration lists are nearly 100% correct according to a review, DHS holds an opposing view, telling the Daily Signal that the department investigators “have repeatedly demonstrated that illegal aliens can and do vote in our elections.”

Election integrity has become a topic of growing concern, with 2020 leading to many calls for reform of America’s voting system.

DHS highlighted the problem of having illegal aliens on voter registration lists, telling the Daily Signal that “more than 24,000 cases have been identified by SAVE as potential non-U.S. citizens who were on voter rolls” since April of last year.

The department noted that throughout the course of the past year, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has “overhauled the SAVE program, making it fully operational and providing states with an easy-to-use tool that has resulted in over 60 million voter verification queries processed since April 2025.”

Trump has urged Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, a piece of legislation that requires voters show their photo identification to vote.

Ultimately, DHS noted that Homeland Security Investigations “is committed to restoring integrity to our election systems and ensuring that American citizens, and only American citizens, are electing American leaders.”
