Former NFL Player Arrested After Accidental Shooting Involving Toddler

Former Miami Dolphins and Texas A&M University running back Le’Veon Moss was arrested on a charge alleging cruelty to juveniles Monday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Moss, 23, told police that he was holding his child in bed when his son got hold of the weapon and accidentally fired a single shot, striking the child. Before the incident, Moss placed the gun under the pillow on his bed where he “failed to properly secure the weapon,” according to 6News.

Baton Rouge Police Department’s affidavit stated that “due to Moss’ negligence, a child under the age of seventeen suffered unjustifiable pain.” Following the incident, Moss was booked on the warrant alleging child neglect. At the time of publication, Moss is still in custody. His bond is set at $25,000.

Immediately after the toddler was shot, Moss and his girlfriend drove the child to the hospital. His son’s health is currently being closely monitored at Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital. The child’s condition has still not been released.

Moss never played an official snap in the NFL after signing with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in the 2026 NFL Draft in April. He retired from football altogether just days after signing.

At Texas A&M, Moss compiled 2,003 total yards and 22 touchdowns over four years with the program. However, he suffered several major injuries, including to his ACL and MCL in 2024.
