“Serving my country as AAG for Civil Rights has been the honor of a lifetime,” Dhillon said on Thursday. “We ushered in the downfall of illegal DEI, we fought to protect women and girls’ sports, and so much more. I want to thank President Trump for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to what’s next!”

Dhillon leaves the Justice Department with a strong record of aggressive civil rights enforcement as well as a commitment to defending the constitutional rights and freedoms of American citizens. During her tenure, Dhillon cracked down on race-based admissions and DEI in higher education, taking on elite universities over antisemitism and discrimination, and defending religious liberty across the nation, including the rights of Jewish students.

She also backed President Donald Trump’s efforts to protect women’s sports and spaces, directing the civil rights enforcement of Trump’s executive order banning men from women’s sports. She moved the Civil Rights Division away from the priorities of former President Joe Biden’s administration, which had focused on highly controversial charges against Americans like pro-life activists, policies promoting transgenderism, or litigation involving police departments.

Dhillon’s division made Second Amendment enforcement a priority, and she worked hard to end race-based admissions quotas in schools, landing a July 2026 settlement that required a high school to end admissions quotas that were based on race and national origin. She similarly pushed states to provide voter records for review, filing lawsuits demanding voter registration data and increased election monitoring.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, Attorney General Todd Blanche announced Dhillon’s resignation and praised her for her work in the Justice Department.

“Today, I accepted the resignation of Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, who led the Civil Rights Division with conviction the past 18 months,” he said. “She has defended the civil liberties of every American and enforced the law without fear or favor. The Department is grateful for her dedicated public service, and we wish her every success in her future endeavors.”

The White House also praised Dhillon.

“Harmeet Dhillon has done a fantastic job as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights boldly protecting Americans’ civil liberties, and we are very grateful for her dedicated service at the Department of Justice,” White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis told The Daily Wire.

Sources told The Daily Wire in April of this year that the president would promote Dhillon to one of the top slots at the DOJ, associate attorney general. The promotion didn’t ultimately materialize, however, leaving Stanley Woodward in the position as Dhillon stayed on as head of the Civil Rights Division until her resignation on Thursday.

Prior to the time at the Justice Department, Dhillon made a name for herself in the conservative movement through her work at her legal firm, Dhillon Law Group, where she represented Americans like pro-life undercover journalist David Daleiden and detransitioner Chloe Cole in free speech and civil rights cases. She was also a major force in Republican campaign and election law.

“Among her many notable cases, Ms. Dhillon brought legal challenges against the University of California, Berkeley over its free speech policy, against an Antifa organization for an assault on a conservative journalist, against several states for their restrictive responses to Covid-19, and against various large tech companies for a host of civil rights issues,” her DOJ bio states.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
