“He gets it. very good politically, and he’s a very good manager,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. “He’ll do a great job. Great manager.”
Miller has long been a central figure in the administration’s policy operation and is known for his forceful defense of Trump’s America First agenda.
Trump praised Wiles but offered little explanation for replacing her.
“I think Susie’s done a very good job, great job,” Trump said. “But I just wanted to make it. Stephen’s been great, and we got to make moves. Sometimes in life you have to make moves.”
Asked what he wanted Miller to accomplish immediately, Trump said: “Just run things well.”
Trump announced Friday that Miller, who has served as deputy chief of staff and one of his closest advisers, would take over as chief of staff beginning Monday, November 9. Wiles, who said Friday would be her last day in the position, will move to Trump’s political operation.

The shakeup comes days after Republicans suffered major losses in the 2026 midterm elections, prompting speculation that Trump would make changes to his White House team.
Vice President JD Vance praised both Wiles and Miller in a post on X.
“Very grateful to Susie for her friendship and service to the president and our country,” Vance wrote. “Stephen Miller is an amazing patriot and will do great things. Congrats to him on a well deserved promotion!”
War Secretary Pete Hegseth also welcomed the appointment, posting “Patriots in control” shortly after Trump announced the move.
Wiles said in her departure statement that serving Trump in the White House had been “the honor of a lifetime.”
“While my role may be changing, my commitment to the president and the mission never will,” she said.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
