“A lot of people have been asking what project I’m doing next, this one releases in December,” Swank wrote on Instagram alongside a video of her family dancing with glow sticks. A tiny baby shape outlined in glow sticks appeared over her stomach.
The baby will make Swank and her husband, entrepreneur Philip Schneider, a family of five. The couple married in 2018 and welcomed twins Aya and Ohm in April 2023, when Swank was 48.
Swank told Women’s Health last year that she froze her eggs at 37 and became pregnant with her twins at 47. She has emphasized that becoming a mother later in life was not simply a matter of choosing to wait.
“I would have had kids earlier. I’m not saying I actively waited until 47,” she said. “But that was a magical time in my life, when it all culminated. It was the right time for a myriad of reasons.”
Swank has also said that becoming a mother later made her more patient and allowed her to focus on her children after establishing her career.
“And I have my career that’s already established, so I’m not divided,” she said. “I’m able to really sink in and be present with them and be a hands-on parent.”
“I’m much more patient. I’m much more understanding,” she added. “I am much more, I think, interested in a different way than I would’ve been. I’m really interested in their brains. I’m fascinated about what makes them tick.”
Swank joins other celebrities who have become mothers later in life, including Janet Jackson, who welcomed her first child at 50. Halle Berry welcomed her second child at 47, and sports media personality Erin Andrews welcomed her first child at 45.
The broader shift toward later motherhood extends beyond Hollywood. The average age of first-time mothers in the United States rose to 27.5 in 2023, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
