Ignoring Backlash From Dems, State Department Makes ‘Patriot Passports’ Available Nationwide

WASHINGTON — The State Department is issuing another 250,000 “Patriot Passports” imbued with a portrait of President Donald Trump due to “overwhelming demand,” The Daily Wire can first report.

The move to make the passports available nationwide comes in response to huge demand for the passports after their limited release for America’s 250th anniversary, a State Department official shared, noting that the commemorative passport has generated “extraordinary public interest.”

“Americans have shown tremendous enthusiasm for the America 250 commemorative passport, and we’re proud to expand access nationwide as our country prepares to celebrate 250 years of independence,” spokesman Tommy Pigott told The Daily Wire.

Democrat lawmakers had expressed horror at the initial release of the passports, with senators launching a formal inquiry into Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the alleged “politicization” of the passports.

“It’s a scary day in America when an actual king behaves more democratically than the president of the United States,” wrote Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), known for his visit to El Salvador to meet with deported illegal immigrant Kilmar Ábrego García.

Democrat California Rep. Mike Levin posted angrily about how Trump’s “signature in gold” is “superimposed over the Declaration of Independence, a document literally written to get away from this exact behavior.”

“No sitting president has ever done this,” he said in a social media post. “Coins, park passes, battleships, and now your passport. The man cannot find a surface he will not slap his name or face on. This is not patriotism. It is vanity.”

The State Department and Trump administration appeared to ignore this backlash (Trump said in a June Truth Social post that the new passport says “Welcome, but be good!”) and are now rolling out even more of the passports.

“This commemorative passport is a meaningful way for Americans to carry a symbol of our nation’s history and enduring spirit as they travel the world,” Pigott explained. “By expanding the program, we’re giving more Americans the opportunity to take part in this historic milestone and celebrate the values that have made the United States the greatest nation in the world for nearly 250 years.”

Americans who wish to obtain one of these passports can attend application events at passport agencies and centers across the country. The commemorative passports will include a portrait of the president next to the text of the Declaration of Independence, a Freedom 250 gold flag, and a picture of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration.

The first passport events will be held at agencies in Chicago, Colorado, Connecticut, Dallas, Detroit, Minneapolis, New Orleans, and New York, a State Department official shared.
