“My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee,” Tim Mynett told Fox News when asked about the recent raid of their home. “No concerns.”
Federal agents with Homeland Security Investigations conducted a search of their home on Monday in what the Justice Department described as “an ongoing federal investigation.” The probe is believed to be related to Omar’s clouded immigration history.
Omar’s family came to the United States in the 1990s after the brutal Somali regime of communist dictator Siad Barre was exiled following internal unrest. Nur Omar Mohamed, Omar’s father, was a high-ranking military official in Barre’s government who lived on a guarded compound. They were granted refugee status after leaving the country during the fall of Barre’s regime, The Daily Wire previously reported.
Mynett consulted for Omar’s first congressional campaign before the two tied the knot in March 2020, her third known marriage. Questions have swirled around his business dealings, including association with Rose Lake Capital. The firm once noted that it could shape “legislation” on behalf of clients.
President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social about how Omar once listed Mynett’s net worth at up to $30 million before retracting that number and attributing it to an accounting error.
“Do you think the accountant actually gave the right number the first time, 30 Million Dollars, and then she was forced to disavow because she never would have been able to report where that much money came from?” Trump posted on Truth Social Tuesday. “She must have freaked out when she saw that money! Where did her house come from, where did her cars come from, and what about her lovely place in Washington, D.C.?”
The raid comes weeks after border czar Tom Homan confirmed that federal officials were investigating allegations that Omar married her brother to commit immigration fraud, raising questions about whether she could lose her citizenship and face deportation.
Those accusations revolve around Omar’s 2009 marriage to Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen who many believe is her biological brother.
“I mean, if someone committed [an] immigration violation and someone committed marriage fraud or anything like that, regardless if they’re a congresswoman or not, no one’s above the law, so I’ll leave it at that,” Homan said. “We’ll let HSI, Homeland Security Investigations, continue the investigation.”
