‘League Is Run By Morons’: Latest WNBA Fail Has Internet Shocked

The league posted a video on its official social media pages showing two star players betting on their upcoming WNBA game.
In the video, Paige Bueckers of the Dallas Wings and the Atlanta Dream’s Angel Reese talk about betting $400 on their upcoming face-off. “If y’all win, you get the $400,” Reese says. “And if we lose, then you get to keep it,” Bueckers says, agreeing to the bet.

But it gets worse from there. Reese talked about collecting on the bet after her team defeated Dallas. “So the WNBA posted a video of players making a $400 bet and then in the post game presser a player bragged about winning the bet?!” Travis added, captioning video of the moment. “Dumbest league in sports history.”

“The fact that the league itself posted the video??? Really [WNBA]?? You literally can’t make this stuff up,” Sage Steele, who formerly worked at ESPN, commented.
Dave Portnoy said on X, “Pete Rose was suspended for life for doing less. [It’ll] be interesting to see how [WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert] handles this.”
The WNBA has since released a statement saying the video about the bet was meant to be “lighthearted” but “missed the mark.”
“While the social media post was intended to be lighthearted, WNBA players are well aware of the league’s policies prohibiting betting on WNBA games and receive training every year reinforcing those policies,” the league said. “We recognized that the post missed the mark, removed it shortly after it was published, and addressed the matter internally.”
“We will also use this as an opportunity to reemphasize with the players involved that conversations about wagering on WNBA games, even when intended as a joke, can have negative consequences,” the statement added.
It’s unclear whether the players involved were disciplined or fined.
