As the largest steel plant in America, it is set to bring 1,700 new permanent jobs, thousands more construction jobs, and tens of billions of dollars to the U.S. economy, restoring steel manufacturing to the United States.
The ad features a former union cardholder and Marine at an old factory in Iowa, claiming that the state used to have “good union jobs.”
“Places like this had good union jobs, but they left. I’m a Marine, and I carried a union card. I don’t vote party. I vote results. Marionette secured the largest steel mill in America—1,700 jobs coming to Lee County,” he says.
“I’m proud to have helped deliver the largest steel mill in American history to Lee County,” Miller-Meeks said in a statement to the Daily Signal. “Southeast Iowa watched the good jobs leave for a generation while this country bought its steel from China.”
“Now 1,700 permanent jobs are coming home, making steel in America, by Americans. [Democrat candidate for U.S. House] Christina Bohannan calls the policies that brought it here ‘disastrous’ and promises to end them. If she gets her way, the policy goes, and those jobs go with it,” she concluded.
The project was approved by the Iowa House and Senate. Though it passed the Legislature, 28 Democrats voted against the project, including state Sen. Sarah Trone Garriott, who is currently running to unseat U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn.
The White House announced the $15 billion Mesabi Metallics steel complex in September with Trump, Mesabi Metallics, and Iowa Republicans.
According to the White House, the project “will create 1,750 new, permanent jobs, support up to 6,000 construction jobs, and generate an estimated $95 billion in U.S. economic output over construction and the first decade of operations.”
The ad, paid for by Miller-Meeks for Congress, goes on to criticize her opponent, Bohannan, for launching her campaign in the man’s union hall, then going back on union workers by calling the end to no tax on overtime “unconscionable.”
After Republicans passed the “One Big, Beautiful Bill” in July 2025, Bohannan called the vote “unconscionable.”
“This vote is unconscionable. My opponent is well aware of the threat that she is posing to Iowa families, 100,000 of whom will have their health care ripped away as a result of this vote—solely to send a tax giveaway to billionaire political donors,” Bohannan said.
“It’s not that she doesn’t know; she just doesn’t care. Mariannette Miller-Meeks has had three terms in Congress—three chances to do right by the people of Iowa. She has failed us every time. If we want to change Washington, we’ve got to change the people we send there,” she continued.
“Miller-Meeks puts Iowa first and delivers results. That’s who I’m voting for,” the man in the ad concludes.
The ad will begin running on Friday evening.
Bohannan and Trone Garriott did not immediately respond to the Daily Signal’s request for comment.
