Christian Watson must have wanted to be “Stone Cold” Steve Austin for Halloween.

During the Packers‘ 27-19 win over the Panthers on Thursday, we were witnesses to one of the strangest returns from an injury in NFL history.

Watson came down gingerly after securing a 53-yard reception from Jordan Love. After heading to the sideline and eventually to the locker room, the receiver was ruled questionable to return with a chest injury.

Just moments after, Kaylee Hartung reported on the broadcast that Watson was being sent to the hospital for “precautionary reasons” due to the injury, an extremely rare scenario that usually only occurs when a player is carted off or appears seriously hurt.

Strangely enough, Watson was never downgraded to doubtful or out after he left the stadium.

Instead, Hartung said during the third quarter that Watson was on the way back to Lambeau Field from the hospital, emphasizing that he was still not ruled out of the contest, seemingly implying he would return to the game.

Sure enough, he would.

Watson arrived back at the stadium, hopped out of the passenger seat of what appeared to be the same ambulance — still wearing his pads — and ran back through the same tunnel he left just hours before.

I’m not sure even Vince McMahon could write a script this good.

On the ensuing drive, Watson entered the game and immediately received a deep shot target from his quarterback.

Watson finished with eight catches for 113 yards. After the game, the wideout spoke with Hartung, telling her he never wanted to go to the hospital but they insisted after he was coughing up blood.

While they checked for internal bleeding, Watson said he was watching the play-by-play on the doctor’s phone.

Is this the NFL or WWE? Unbelievable script ???? https://t.co/37MLV6oHBT

I’m not sure whether we have — or ever will — see a moment like that again.
