Patrick Clancy Describes Final Days With 8-Month-Old Callan

Patrick Clancy revealed in an interview that aired Sunday night that his 8-month-old son Callan died in his arms at Boston Children’s Hospital, four days after Patrick’s then-wife Lindsay Clancy strangled Callan and his two siblings.

“I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live,” Patrick told “60 Minutes.” “And I remember just thinking, ‘Just gimme one. Just gimme one kid,’ and I would raise him as best I could, and I would give him the best life I possibly could. I’d tell him about his brother and sister.”

“I was holdin’ out hope for that,” the grieving father continued. “And then when I got to the hospital, I saw the doctor, I saw the look on her face, and I knew that it wasn’t going to be a good prognosis.”

Patrick discovered his three children in the basement of his family home on January 24, 2023, after Lindsay strangled them with exercise bands. Cora, 5, and Dawson, 3, were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Doctors were able to restart Callan’s heart after about 10 minutes at the hospital, but he never regained brain function. The 8-month-old was then airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital, where he remained on life support for several days. Callan died on January 27, 2023, in Patrick’s arms.

“I’m so grateful for those four days that I had with him, and I’m so grateful that he hung on,” Patrick said.

The father said he spoke to Callan at the hospital, and with tears in his eyes, he revealed that he told Callan he was “so sorry.”

“I told him, ‘I’m so sorry,'” an emotional Patrick said. “I got to hold him, I got to lay down next to him, and he died in my arms.”

Lindsay has admitted to killing her three children, but has leaned on an insanity defense to try to avoid criminal responsibility for the crimes. On September 4, the triple-murder trial ended in a mistrial, and it remains unclear if prosecutors will retry Lindsay, who is currently staying at a psychiatric hospital.

During the “60 Minutes” interview, Patrick also revealed that while he has forgiven Lindsay for killing their children, his ex-wife has never asked him for forgiveness.

“I think when it comes to forgiveness, I also felt that if I didn’t get there, I would be eaten up inside forever,” he said. Journalist Ross Douthat followed up, “Has she ever asked for your forgiveness?”

“No,” Patrick responded. “But I gave it to her.”

Just days after the killings, Patrick shared heartfelt words about his children and asked others to forgive Lindsay. “I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have,” he wrote in a GoFundMe set up for the family. “The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace.”
