Over the next week, the Vermont socialist will campaign in Florida and Texas as part of his ongoing “Fighting Oligarchy Tour.” Beginning Saturday, Sanders will make stops in Tampa, Melbourne, Gainesville, and Tallahassee.

In Florida, he will be joined by far-left state Rep. Angie Nixon, the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, who has called for the punishment and imprisonment of incumbent Republican Sen. Ashley Moody.

During a viral CNN interview, Nixon pushed back on claims that she supports abolishing prisons, arguing that she could not possibly support doing so because she wants her opponent, Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL), thrown behind bars.

“They are spreading, like, a lot of disinformation and lies on commercials about me, of saying things like, I want to abolish prisons, and I want to defund the police,” Nixon claimed, as the CNN anchor sat beside her with a straight face. “Why would I want to do that when I want her [Moody] locked up and punished in jail for what she has done?”

Nixon also spent months attacking slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, calling his supporters tools of “white supremacy” and comparing a bill honoring the Turning Point USA founder to something “brought straight by the KKK,” as The Daily Wire previously reported.

Nixon’s embrace of Sanders on the campaign trail could prove politically risky in a conservative state where many voters, including immigrants who fled repressive communist and socialist regimes, have backed Republicans in recent elections.

In a recent advertisement, Moody painted Nixon as a far-left radical and leaned into anti-socialist messaging.

“She quotes cop killers, attacks law enforcement, and signed up for a socialist platform to abolish prisons and defund the police,” Moody said. “I approve this message because it’s freedom or socialism, and that’s not complicated,” she added.

After Florida, Sanders will take his left-wing populist message to Texas, where Democrat James Talarico and Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton are locked in a tight race. He will be in Amarillo, El Paso, and Houston. But unlike Nixon, Talarico will not join Sanders on the campaign trail as he seeks to turn Texas blue for the first time in decades.

Instead, former Texas Democratic star Beto O’Rourke will join Sanders on the campaign trail. O’Rourke previously failed to unseat Sen. Ted Cruz in 2018 and Gov. Greg Abbott in 2022.

Whether or not Talarico joins him, Sanders’ visit is likely to draw statewide media attention and complicate Talarico’s efforts to win over the moderate voters he needs to prevail.

“Bernie Sanders and James Talarico are two peas in a socialist pod,” RNC spokesman Zach Kraft said in a statement to The Daily Wire. “From introducing a Texas Green New Deal to ban oil and gas to saying he ‘doesn’t care how high he has to raise taxes,’ Talarico is already auditioning to be Bernie’s top lieutenant fighting for a radical liberal agenda in the U.S. Senate.”

The Daily Wire previously reported how Talarico flip-flopped on numerous issues from border security to his beliefs about God during a CNN town hall Wednesday as he continues to run from his radical past.

“I am not running for the U.S. Senate to represent New York or California. I’m not running for the U.S. Senate to represent the Democratic Party,” Talarico claimed during the town hall. “I am running for Senate to represent all 31 million Texans, and I will always do what’s best for Texas.”

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
