Suspect, victim dead after SWAT responds to 'active threat' at office complex near Tampa, Florida

Law enforcement in Florida responded to a reported active shooter situation Wednesday at a Tampa-area Citibank campus, with authorities later confirming the suspect and one victim are dead.

The situation unfolded at the Citibank Center in Brandon.

"If you are in or near the area, SHELTER IN PLACE immediately. Stay indoors, lock doors, and stay away from windows," an emergency alert stated.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said one person was taken into law enforcement custody, before saying the person was dead.

"UPDATE: Citibank Center Scene… The suspect involved is deceased," he wrote on X.

The sheriff's office later confirmed that one victim was also dead. Authorities have not disclosed how the suspect and victim died. 

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were clearing a building in the area. 

Fox News Digital reached out to the sheriff's office for additional details.

Citibank employees were asked to meet at the triage area in the parking lot of the Sheraton Tampa Brandon Hotel. Families of employees were instructed to meet at the reunification site at Staybridge Suites Tampa East.
