Texas Shuts Down Chinese Birth Tourism Center Visited by Daily Wire

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton secured a major victory in the state’s legal battle against an alleged Chinese birth tourism center, forcing it to shut down.

Earlier this year, the Daily Wire visited the three homes and one apartment allegedly operated by De’Ai Postpartum Care Center in Houston. The state said the homes were used to house pregnant Chinese women looking to give birth to American citizen babies.

The State of Texas sued De’Ai Postpartum Care Center in April, accusing it of “exploiting birthright citizenship by unlawfully facilitating the invasion of Chinese nationals … for the sole purpose of giving birth.”

De’Ai Postpartum Care Center has allegedly facilitated the births of more than 1,000 American-born babies.

“I will do everything in my power to stop foreign nationals from unlawfully exploiting our immigration system through the scam of ‘birth tourism,'” Paxton said in a statement Friday.

“This operation helped Chinese foreign nationals come to Texas to evade our laws. Now, we have to shut it down,” the Republican Senate nominee added.

During the Daily Wire’s earlier visit to one of the homes, an Asian man sporting a “Make America Cowboy Again” shirt identified himself as Lai Wan Lin-Chan, who was named as a defendant in the lawsuit.

Lin-Chan said he needed a lawyer in order to talk about the lawsuit and shooed this reporter away.

One of the center’s TikTok videos urged women to apply for American tourist visas “before pregnancy,” adding that the federal government “will strictly investigate birth tourism” and that “it is easy to be rejected if you sign after pregnancy.”

The center “claims to offer a variety of options for tourism while expectant families await the birth of their child,” including a “luxury chauffeured black-car service across the Houston area for its high-paying guests, purportedly to visit the variety of different locales advertised on its social media page, including the spring bluebonnets in Brenham, Texas, the Houston Rodeo, Christmas light shows in Houston, and the Louvre Couture exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts,” according to Paxton’s lawsuit.

Some neighbors reported seeing multiple vehicles crammed into the driveways of the center’s homes.

David, who declined to share his last name out of concern for his safety, said he’s observed many different people going in and out of one of the homes.

The closure of the center comes as the Trump administration continues its efforts to crack down on the abuse of birthright citizenship.

In June, the Supreme Court shut down President Donald Trump’s first attempt to end birthright citizenship.

The president then signed executive orders in August seeking to end the exploitation of birthright citizenship through birth tourism and certain surrogacy arrangements. A federal judge in Maryland temporarily blocked one of the orders earlier this month.
