The Chilling Texts An ‘American Idol’ Alum’s Mistress Read Aloud At His Murder Trial

The woman who claims she was having an affair with “American Idol” alum Caleb Flynn testified this week in court as he stands trial for the alleged murder of his wife.

Caleb, 40, stands accused of murdering Ashley Flynn, 37, as their two young daughters slept in the next room. Ashley was found fatally shot in the head at the couple’s Tipp City, Ohio, home on the morning of February 16. Caleb maintains she died from a burglary gone wrong.

But Caleb’s alleged mistress, Alleigha Botner, testified that he had been sending her text messages all along expressing a desire to murder Ashley and saying he was willing to sacrifice his relationship with his daughters to be with her, People reported.

Botner took the stand and read text messages she and Caleb exchanged during their nearly two-year affair before Ashley’s killing.

“I think what I’m willing to sacrifice is my daughters, a quarter million dollars, salaried job, a place to live, possibly a church that I serve at,” Botner read from an exchange the two had in September 2025.

In a text message sent in October 2025, Caleb allegedly wrote, “me leaving douche means ruining my daughters’ lives and yet I will still do it.” 

Botner had previously said that “douche” was the nickname they gave to Ashley. She said Caleb also called his wife “b*tch,” “wh*re,” “sl*t,” and “spawn of Satan.”

“I’m willing to flip my life upside down, to lose a job, to lose a salary, to lose a house, to lose my daughters full time and to go through this hell that will come with leaving her,” Caleb reportedly wrote in another message.

Botner said Caleb had mentioned wanting to kill Ashley several times and allegedly spent time brainstorming ways to carry it out. She also admitted to saying she wanted to kill Ashley during the course of their text conversations.

“I was up until 4 a.m. last night crying, literally trying to think of ways to kill her and not go to jail,” Caleb allegedly wrote in an August 2025 message. In a separate message in May 2025, he allegedly wrote, “If I could literally kill her and not go to hell, I would do it in a heartbeat. That is how dark and how hateful I feel.”

Ashley’s sister also testified this week, telling the court that the couple’s two daughters were “shocked” by the tragedy.

“They were mostly brokenhearted for Mommy,” Kayla Keyt said of the girls finding out their dad was having an affair with Botner, whom they knew from church. “They were shocked, they were upset for their mom because they said, ‘She loved daddy more than anyone else in life. So why did Daddy not love her as much?’” 

Keyt also testified that when the family told the girls the identity of Caleb’s alleged mistress, the older daughter responded, “I’m not surprised.” 

Botner abruptly quit her position at the church days after Caleb’s arrest, and church leadership said she did not give a reason for her resignation.

Caleb was charged with murder, aggravated murder, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and witness intimidation, the outlet noted. He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
