The Daily Signal Is Equipping the Next Generation of Conservative Leaders

The Daily Signal is a leader in conservative media with a mission to present the truth and defend traditional American values. Right now, it is looking to equip the next generation of journalists as part of its spring 2027 internship program.
               
As a current Daily Signal intern and recent graduate from the University of Minnesota, interning at the Daily Signal has become an opportunity to grow in the media world and gain firsthand experience of how a news organization functions. Being a part of a fact-driven news organization with the mission of defending the truth—and only steps away from the U.S. Capitol—is an opportunity that should not be missed.

The spring internship application deadline for the Daily Signal is Oct. 4. The program runs from Jan. 11 to April 9, 2027, with full-time or part-time positions available.

Even though the Daily Signal has operated independently from The Heritage Foundation since 2024, it maintains a special partnership with the organization’s Young Leaders Program.

The Young Leaders Program typically has around 60 interns per semester, and up to four Daily Signal interns work alongside full-time staff each day.

Former Daily Signal interns have gone on to work in the White House, Wall Street Journal, Daily Wire and press secretaries for members of Congress.

Two of my sisters completed Daily Signal internships before me, and I’m grateful to both of them for introducing me to this phenomenal program.

“My internship at the Daily Signal has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my college career,” Eleanor Berkness, a summer 2026 intern said, “I created content that reached thousands of people, covered stories and gained experience that prepared me for a career.”

The Daily Signal internship provides ample opportunity to write op-eds, pitch story ideas, interview public figures, and work alongside professional editors who help make stories seamless and professional.

Summer 2026 intern Karly Tucker said, “I was able to publish 12 articles, interview Freedom 250 CEO Keith Krach, and receive feedback that pushed my writing skills to grow.” She expressed gratitude for how the internship developed her writing and journalistic skills.

Personally, I also find it to be enormously refreshing to be surrounded by people with like-minded worldviews and conservative values. The camaraderie among my fellow interns is something that sets this experience apart.

Being surrounded by talented, motivated peers who challenge and learn from one another has created a collaborative environment unlike any of my previous experiences. The friendships and professional connections I’ve built have become one of the most valuable aspects of my time here. I get excited to come to work every day to learn from professionals and find ways to make a positive difference in the conservative movement.

In addition, interns interact directly with Daily Signal readers and communicate with them on behalf of the organization. With nearly one million newsletter subscribers, interns are exposed to a range of perspectives via emails and phone calls and learn firsthand how every story is received. I enjoy engaging with readers and thanking them for their feedback. It has helped me sharpen my communication skills and better understand the impact of the Daily Signal’s reporting.

During the internship, interns are encouraged to attend congressional hearings on topics that will shape future policy and learn from witnesses which help decide the future trajectory of that policy. Recently, I went to a Senate hearing on Flock cameras and heard from senators and witnesses from across the country.

Interns also attend weekly lectures that help build critical thinking and sharpen our understanding of conservative policy and current events. Being taught by successful conservative leaders and experts builds a strong foundation for every class of interns.
