The Democratic Socialists of America’s Platform Explicitly Aims to Destroy the Constitution

Socialists are sweeping through and taking control of America’s big cities, replacing the old Democrat establishment and imposing their will on local politics.

And the Squad is looking more like an army these days as Democrats are set to send more open socialists to Congress.

It’s time more Americans pay attention to what they intend to do with their newfound power.

DSA membership has been exploding since President Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, and it took off further after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced his candidacy. The organization is now merging with the operations of the Democrat Party in New York City and elsewhere.

Stu Smith at City Journal wrote an excellent deep dive on the newly adopted DSA platform labeled “Workers Deserve More!”

It provides keen insight for the kind of politics in store for big, “blue” cities—which I now have to put in quotes because they seem more red these days. As in Marxist red.

Smith noted that the platform is actually a compromise by the organization to provide a big tent that would allow “Bernie Sanders devotees and more reform-minded socialists to work alongside self-described Maoists and Communists” who demand even more radical positions.

These compromise positions nevertheless remain what can be described in technical terms as “whackadoodle.”

The platform endorses the “scrapping the U.S. Senate, ‘abolishing the carceral forces of the capitalist state,’ defunding the Department of War, amnesty for all immigrants, and ‘replac[ing] the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress.”

Whatever you think about the need to revive the efficacy of Congress, turning it into an essentially unaccountable Committee of Public Safety controlled by what they no doubt hope will be a collection of 21st-century Robespierres would end our country’s long experiment in freedom.

There’s more.

The platform demands that noncitizens be allowed to vote in American elections, ending the concept of borders and citizenship.

The document calls for the drafting of a new constitution and creating a “democratic socialist republic” to presumably rule over the rubble of the old constitutional republic.

“The document makes clear that achieving this vision would require ‘building a new society from the ground up,’ accompanied by sweeping structural changes,” Smith wrote.

They would do this, he explained, “with sweeping political and economic changes, including full public financing for campaigns and the abolition of the Electoral College, alongside the establishment of public ownership of the largest corporations and essential industries to ensure democratic control and accountability, and strict regulations on investment properties.”

It’s not just governmental and economic changes that they aim to carry out. The platform also demands ending all restrictions on marriage, which Smith concluded means legalizing polygamy.

What does all this mean if they actually get their way?

One member of the “far-left Reform & Revolution caucus,” Smith wrote, said that while doing things like abolishing the Supreme Court might be a bit “off putting for people,” it’s necessary to carry out “a vision of transforming the functions of the American state to allow for the implementation of socialism.”

That’s refreshingly straightforward.

DSA’s aims are clear. By removing all impediments to their power, they mean to do from within what Khruschev and the old USSR failed to accomplish from without: bury the good, old USA once and for all and replace it with a Marxist, all-powerful state ruled by them.

As radical as these apparently watered down proposals are, it’s hard not to notice how close they are to positions now promoted and taken seriously by “mainstream” Democrats.

You can find quite a paper trail of left-leaning media publications, Democrat strategists, and even Democrat politicians calling for at least variations of these ideas.

The DSA intends to accomplish by brute force what a good number of Democrats already appeared to be doing with incremental goal-post moving. And given recent events, it’s impossible to dismiss these folks as merely a fringe force within the party.

With socialists making so many gains it will increasingly be up to Democrats to answer for these ideas, to explain why they’ve hooked their wagons to big tent allies who demand that America’s 250th anniversary is its last under the Constitution.

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
