The Democrat “blue tsunami” struck not only the U.S. Senate and governor’s mansion races in Georgia, but three other statewide races as well—attorney general, secretary of state, and lieutenant governor. Republicans have just one hope left to keep a check on left-wing power: the Georgia State House.

Ten races have yet to be called in the lower chamber of the General Assembly. The Georgia Senate, by contrast, is narrowly under GOP control after the midterms, with 29 seats confirmed out of 56 total. Democrats remain in the minority with 27 seats.

Prior to Tuesday’s election, Republicans held 99 out of 180 seats in the state House, giving them comfortable control. To maintain power, they must win nearly all of the remaining 10 uncalled races.

Races Too Close to Call

There are 10 House district races that have not yet been called as of Thursday afternoon, according to Decision Desk HQ. One additional race, District 151, will be decided in a runoff election, as no candidate obtained above 50% of the vote.

One uncalled race is District 22, where Republican candidate Jordan Ridley leads Democrat James Shade by around 1 percentage point, a slim margin of 273 votes, according to the secretary of state’s website.

In District 103, Democrat Chris Luchey leads Republican Soo Hong by just 27 votes.

District 154 is also too close to call. Democrat Harry James leads the race, but by a very slim margin of 0.3%, just 58 votes ahead of Republican Gerald E. Greene.

Other districts that haven’t been called as of Thursday afternoon, according to Decision Desk HQ, are Districts 29, 34, 40, 48, 53, 111 and 128.

What Does Election Law Say?

According to state legislation passed in 2019, the margin between two opposing candidates has to be 0.5% or less to ask for a recount. Candidates within the margin must request a recount no later than two business days following the race’s certification.

County elections officials have until Monday to certify results and turn them in to the secretary of state’s office. Following this, the secretary of state has until Nov. 20 to certify the election results.

Georgia GOP Chairman Josh McKoon told the Daily Signal that no matter the outcome, the Georgia Republican Party’s “focus remains on ensuring Republicans continue to fight for Georgia families, hold the line on responsible policies, and prepare for the elections ahead.”

“The Georgia Republican Party will never stop fighting for Georgia,” he added.

Stewart Bragg, general consultant at JLK Political Strategies, told the Daily Signal, “We must continue making the case for responsible leadership and remind voters that promises are easy to make, but the consequences are real.”

I am just an average American. My teen years were in the late 70s and I participated in all that that decade offered. Started working young, too young. Then I joined the Army before I graduated High School. I spent 25 years in, mostly in Infantry units. Since then I've worked in information technology positions all at small family owned companies. At this rate I'll never be a tech millionaire. When I was young I rode horses as much as I could. I do believe I should have been a cowboy. I'm getting in the saddle again by taking riding lessons and see where it goes.
